I think she has a strong sense of duty...and certainty that she is right. Whether they are the qualities we need in a leader right now is another thing.

a tactic that is all to prone to backfiring, innit?
It is all high risk not to mention high stakes. I have to give her credit for her determination. A great many people would have gone by now.
The Brexitarians will never vote for the government's deal - neither will the DUP. In fact it suits them not to, because no deal = hard Brexit.

I've no sympathy for her. She was a horror show as Home Secretary. As a Guardian article from 2016 said-

"Her six years at the Home Office were marked by an instinctive secrecy, a talent for “going missing” or delegating when things went wrong, and a too careless approach to civil liberties"

if she was a horror show as a crucial minister, how in hell did she end up chosen for PM?

If she was a horse we'd put her out her misery.

Sure, she has dogged stick-to-it-ness in spades, but she doesn't seem to have much in way of the imagination or flexibility required to build a solid consensus. It's very much a top-down, mother-knows-best approach, all in the service of keeping her on top of the dog pile.

Simply the last one standing. Just one in a series of national calamities.

She became PM when the other candidates withdrew after realising that, as Home Secretary, she could get a warrant to see their internet browser history...

So basically, she pulled a J Edgar Hoover on them, nice.

“Britain’s reputation is, there’s no denying it, much diminished,” judged Pascal Lamy, one of France’s most senior public officials, a former presidential adviser, European commissioner and World Trade Organization head.

Some British politicians are “on another planet”, Lamy said, incapable of seeing that Brexit is the infinitely complex diplomatic and legal equivalent of “trying to take the eggs out of an omelette. Even today, they spout the most monstrous nonsense. Many have still not landed in a place one could call reality. The cognitive dissonance is … remarkable.”

As far as the EU is concerned, the old label "perfidious Albion" would have a nice ring to it...

It is very common for PMs to get the job because they are the last one standing. It’s in part a consequence of not having a presidential system. Major, Brown and May are three examples in just s a couple of decades.
