The 'when they go low we go high' thing just hands the agenda to the lowest of the low. The handful of far-righters and Trump loons resolutey digging their heals in are forcing everyone else to compromise without having to compromise themselves. There's little benefit for the Dems in facilitating the GOP majority. It's not like the Republicans are ever going to do them a favour, honour a promise, or stop calling them America-destroying far-left extremists is it?

If Scalise gets nominted, he may be especially tough on Democrats. He is one of the very few people in the country that has been shot at by antifa:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Scalise
On June 14, 2017, during practice for that year's Congressional Baseball Game, Scalise was shot and seriously wounded by an anti-Trump domestic terrorist[5][6][7] who was targeting Republicans.[8] Scalise underwent treatment for several months, returning to Congress on September 28.

Insurrectionists set to take over rules committee!
CNN
In two more concessions, the sources said, he’s also agreed to allow for more members of the Freedom Caucus to serve on the powerful House Rules Committee, which dictates how and whether bills come to the floor, and to vote on a handful of bills that are priorities for the holdouts, including proposing term limits on members and a border security plan.
I think the insurrectionist wing is going to have their way. They will eventually come and support McCarthy, but will make sure it is going to be a real possibility in 2024 to put in place a president that did not win the electoral college. All the things we feared will become a reality. Democracy is losing as Kevin makes concessions.

If I were from colorado, I'd be ashamed enough to move away.

7th vote, ongoing, is essentially over. McCarthy lost 7. He can only lose 5.

Well, a significant number voting "present" instead of a candidate, would give a weird result.

Why? She isn't representative of all of Colorado.

If she isn't, why is she a rep from that state in DC?
and seriously, to think that I dwell in the same state as people able to send that to be their public image, makes me retch... or would if I were Coloradan.

She is not a representative of the state. She represents one district in 8. Seriously, are there no politicians in France that make you retch?

all of them actually, but I know no country with a better cost/quality ratio in the health service... so I don't dare go leave elsewhere lest my days be drastically shortened

Colorado's healthcare system isn't on par with France, but is one of the best in the US.

In spite of Boebert, Colorado is a solidly blue state. Both Senators are Democrats, 5 of 8 Congressmembers are Democrats, Our Governor is a Democrat, and both houses of the State Assembly are controlled by Democrats.

Besides, I like the views.
