Regardless of what you think global warming is not a matter of ideology or belief. It's simply a matter of atmospheric chemistry, the available data, and scientific consensus.

It's not about science - that part is just the fact of global warming. As I said, that's something that has been known about for decades.

It's the tax solution, and a bunch of folks insisting that their method of pissing away that tax revenue will have a positive effect...that sounds like church bullshit to me.

I'm into good suggestions. I recycle, I use half the diesel to heat my home than the other small homes around me. I turn lights off. I generally use less.

As Peter Rez at Arizona State University discusses, renewables will not make much of a dent in their total carbon emissions. The problem is that even when renewables produce enough energy to supply all of the country’s electricity, the variability of the renewables means Germany has to keep the coal plants running, over half of which use the dirtiest of all coal, lignite.

Look to France for how these new policies are affecting the citizens.

Houston is huge and the majority is forced to drive everywhere. Most driveways have multiple cars in them as a result.

But it seems to me that we lack the will to even imagine a radical change to how we get around.

There is a radical new way to get around. It's called public transit. You will find that MANY of those promoting the 'pay more tax to save the earth' proponents simply can't get onto public transport. It's full of dirty people. Workers. Homeless...you seriously can't expect politicians to use it. They wouldn't be SAFE.

If you have a vehicle, and don't know what time your local bus stops, you might be part of the problem.

So next time someone supports a carbon tax, whether it is a politician, activist or neighbour, see if they know their local transit system. If they don't, I think its safe to say that they don't care in a personal way, just a political one.

Yeah right, except public transportation sucks for other reasons, namely availability.

I'm going to assume your comment about not wanting to use public transportation because of dirty folk is just a result of you being a country bumpkin who's probably only got one bus in town anyway, and the stop for it is at the end of the street you all live on.
