The Coronavirus Thread
Re: The Coronavirus Thread
Just an example:
Last weekend, my door bell rang. I opened my apartment door and there was a plumber who without a warning came a few centimeters face to face with me to tell me that he had to inspect my bathroom because my neighbor living above me had a water damage. I was totally thrown off my guard. Within seconds, there were three plumbers in my apartment plus a neighbor all chatting happily with each other. No masks. No distances. And they were repeating that routine throughout several apartments in the house. No masks. No distance. Chatting.
And that seems to be happening all over the place.
When I order food for delivery, every second delivery boy doesn't wear masks. When they ring the bell, I put a folding box on the floor two metres before my apartment door for them to place the food and then collect it after they have gone. But a lot of people don't do that. Every day there are news in the local newspaper about the police having crushed illegal parties.
Last weekend I saw pictures of people going shopping in the city centre for "Black Friday" discounts. Packed crowds outside the shops no one wearing masks (because "it is only mandatory to wear them in the shops").
When I go shopping (only once or twice a week) I explicitly chose times when there are few people there. Still, there are a lot of people in the supermarket not respecting distances. Many don't wear their masks correctly (with huge holes on the sides or with the nose not covered).

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
The nose over the mask is becoming increasingly popular round here - I call it 'the beaky'. It's that kind of performative compliance which will make this whole thing drag out - because as sure as eggs is eggs, as soon as the govt declare the care homes and hospitals inoculated they'll tell us all to get back to business as usual.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
I had a friendly guy come to the door, and we yelled our conversation for 5 minutes. it was about trees. I went to get a mask cause I had to sign a form. he passed the clip board to me, I got my own pen. I signed away four trees. They are too tall to be under the power line of 30 feet from it. I can plant a dwarf tree now, between the stump of the two tall birches.

Re: The Coronavirus Thread
They may have to add the Astra Zeneca vaccine pretty soon. The vaccine is good for people under 50. It's fine, they just lacked experience doing clinical trials. They could be as far as the other two if they had done it right.

Slightly different league? Drunk driving has proven to be lethal. Masks are "just in case".

No you haven't.
Three different sources have stated that masks in public inside spaces are law in the Netherlands.
Present a single source that disputes it.
