Re: US Election 2020
Seeing a number of posts/articles about the fact that today's riot on Congress was organised on social media. The implication is that social media should be held to account for this. I'm not really sold by these arguments. It's like saying that the phone company should be held responsible for riots organised via the telephone network. People have the right to speak their minds and then be held to account in an appropriate manner. If facebook et al decide to censor/sanction people for that, then that's their right as private owners of their platform. But to hold them to account for people speaking their mind, I don't necessarily buy.

Re: US Election 2020
Romney calls Capitol violence 'an insurrection'
“What happened today was an insurrection incited by the president of the United States,” said the Utah senator Mitt Romney.
Romney had strong words for both today’s violence and for everyone who votes to object, who he said “will be remembered for their role in this shameful episode. That will be their legacy.”

Re: US Election 2020
I haven't heard enough information to decide whether this is "insurrection". I think if they had tried to hold congress via arms, then yes definitely. But from what I've heard they didn't do that. There have been reports of weapons, but from the vision I've seen no armed people are in sight. I'd tend to call it more a riot than an insurrection. Of course, I'm open to any new evidence (or reasoning).

Re: US Election 2020
I'm listening to the speeches from the floor in the Cruz objection debate. They're lining up from both sides to say 'Enough is enough. Biden won, count the damn votes and let's move on already'.
Facebook and Instagram have suspended the President's accounts as well. I'm sure some people are going to bleat about how this is corporate censorship and an infringement of free speech rights - as if invoking 'free speech' somehow makes incitement to violence disappear.

I akways wondered about Trump himself demanding free speech from commercial sites. Sites he uses for free.

Re: US Election 2020
Your desire to conduct a real discussion didn't take long to disappear. Why did you even quote my post? It basically just said that I do not regard the new administration as the 'good guys'. It's a bunch of neoliberals who only look good in comparison to the alternative. You chose to use it as a springboard to comment on today's invasion of Congress. The two are not related.Cunt wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:59 amThere are reports that Antifa was dressing as the proud boys to distract, and the leader of the PB said they were going to dress as antifa. Fun
Then, photos linked a guy who was at todays mayhem (pretending to be a Trump supporter?) to antifa activities.
I think both are probably lying, and an arctic guy pointed out that Bernies fans were pissed that he was robbed again. Trump fans are pissed. Anyone who was better than Kamala (that's EVERYONE, by the numbers) was pissed and likely the Biden voters were pissed.
Maybe there aren't teams anymore, just some angry mobs, nudged along by whoever wants to lead an angry mob.
It is quite easy to hijack an angry mob, as they aren't even as smart as an average committee.
But OK, then. Let's talk about it. You predictably come up with a false flag conspiracy. Try and think about it properly. I'll help.
So here we have Trump repeatedly asking his followers to come to Washington in order to do something about the stolen election. Not having had any luck with the dozens of court cases Team Trump initiated, he is asking his supporters to take direct action. He repeatedly exhorted them to come to the Capitol to defend the constitution and his landslide election victory. What do you think he meant by that? Hint 1: Another election was not in Trump's mind. Hint 2: "Stand down and stand by."
Now 39% of Americans do believe that Trump's election was stolen and that the country's Constitution is endangered. Do you really propose that they stayed away in their thousands and that antifa members disguised themselves as Trump supporters turned up instead to create a false flag incident? That this guy is one of them?
He is in fact known as Q Shaman, aka Jake Angeli, who has become a notable figure in the QAnon conspiracy-theory movement, popping up at far-right rallies in Arizona in the past year. I doubt he'd surround himself with antifa activists disguised as Trumpists. Today's riot was simply, to use Mitt Romney's words "...an insurrection incited by the president of the United States."

Shit. I forgot about that. I can't be trusted because of it, so I wasted my time posting.
And now it's too late to edit the thing by replacing the untrustworthy comments with this nevermindly meme.

How many law enforcement officers at the Capitol building were actually Trump sympathisers? The phrase "fifth column" springs to mind, given the fascist tendencies of so many Amerikan cops...

Donald Trump supporters in Washington DC broke into the Capitol building, attacking police, smashing windows and knocking down doors as Congress was expected to vote to affirm Joe Biden's 2020 presidential win.
Rioters made it into the House Chambers, where US lawmakers had to be evacuated, and also into the offices of some officials.
So how did they get past heavily-guarded police and into the building?
Remarkable vision emerged online of police opening barricades to let people walk towards Capitol Hill.
Unconfirmed vision that was live streamed on social media also showed police guards inside the Capitol taking photos with some protesters.

And where were the National Guard? Trump ordered them in in big numbers to harass the BLM protesters. But when it's his own supporters? Nah.
