They ran up against this unfortunate thing called "reality". The reality is a lot of people are depending on those ACA subsidies and they called their congresscritters. The congress critters, being venal, self-absorbed sociopaths, calculated their odds of being re-elected and decided they'd take a "principled" stand.

I think ACA is here to stay, but probably in a modified version. It's financially untenable at the moment. Whoever comes up with a solution will be in a very good position in 2018 and 2020.

I don't know exactly how ACA works, but why is it financially untenable? If the government can allegedly afford to spend $54bn more per year on the military, then it should be able to afford higher subsidies in ACA.

I think the real problem with it was it's neither fish nor fowl. In order for it to work you have to reduce the cost of healthcare, which it didn't address. Still no negotiations on prescription drug prices, for example, no selling policies across state lines. It was poorly designed and poorly executed. The entire thing, including existing programs like Medicare and Medicaid, must be completely rewritten.

It's not lack of money, we already pay far more as a percentage of GDP than anybody else.

$54 billion is $163 per person. You don't get much healthcare for that.

The affordable care act is not affordable. That's the biggest problem. They promised to reduce insurance premiums, and they didn't. I can't believe they weren't lying when they promised that. They had to know it couldn't do that. Also, they made the usual bullshit promises about reducing fraud, in addition to the price negotiations, and they did nothing.

It's designed to so burden the middle class, that there is no choice but to go to single payer. Maybe that's the way it has to go, I don't know. All I know is, it cannot work. And, if the US switches to single payer, then doctors and everyone else in that industry will have to take hit on their incomes, and all the drug companies will be hit, as will the medical device companies, who will have make far less money than they do now. Maybe that's good. Jared Kushner to be interviewed about Russia ties by Senate Intelligence Committee

President Trump's son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner will be interviewed by the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its investigation into links between Trump associates and Russia.

Earlier today (27 March), the New York Times reported that Richard Burr's committee wish to question Kushner in connection with meetings he arranged with Sergey Kislyak, the Russian ambassador in December 2016.
CNN reported that Kushner had volunteered himself to meet with the panel in relation to their probe of Russian meddling in the US election including actions aimed at destabilising the Hillary Clinton campaign.

The White House told CNN: "Throughout the campaign and transition, Jared Kushner served as the official primary point of contact with foreign governments and officials. Given this role, he has volunteered to speak with Chairman Burr's Committee, but has not yet received confirmation."

The White House has acknowledged a December 2016 meeting between Kushner and Kislyak, which was also attended by Michael Flynn.

They have also confirmed that Kislyak requested a second meeting with Kushner later that month but Kushner asked a deputy to attend. Finally, they admit that Kushner met with Sergey Gorkov, the chief of Vnesheconombank, a Russian government owned development bank placed on US sanctions lists.
