Illinois police protect atheist sign
Re: Illinois police protect atheist sign
You seem to be under attack from religion a lot more over there than Europe. They're trying to get in everywhere. They're like an infestation.
Libertarianism: The belief that out of all the terrible things governments can do, helping people is the absolute worst.

As admirable as I think the cause of the FFRF is, I still feel using the "Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds." slogan is a mistake. You will not make anyone think any harder about their position with phrases like that. All it produces is negative publicity, and frankly just makes atheists look petty. I found the " Don't believe in God? You are not alone" a much better campaign.

If I may suggest a sign for Easter?
On the Sunday after the first full moon on or after the day of the vernal equinox, please let reason prevail.
I mean, playing "find the eggs", enjoying a bit of chocolate, and having a slap-up meal with your family and friends is a good thing, but seriously... Actually believing that the chocolate eggs were hand-delivered by a giant rabbit is just as bat-shit crazy as believing that the dead can rise from their graves and zombies once stalked the streets of Jerusalem.

"Are you really gentle? This is my pet!"
"Lady, I'm very gentle."
"Okay, take charge,then."
The trainer then picks up a large piece of wood and slams the mule right between the eyes, staggering it.
"Hey, I thought you were gentle!"
"I am, but first you have to get their attention."

We're not at the "civilized conversation" stage. The Four Horsemen would be lynched if they showed up around here.leo-rcc wrote:"You're a stupid idiot for believing this shit, look at my worldview instead.". I've likened this one above to your suggested one Gawdzilla,
"It's Easter. You've seen the guys in the bunny suits. You've seen the guys dressed up like Jesus. Think about it."

Re: Illinois police protect atheist sign
An interesting point about public sloagans is that they are adressed to everybody, no matter what shade of belief or non-belief they may have.
When you are having a conversation with a theist, you can tailor your comments to the nature of their belief. What may be useful when speaking to a liberal christian may not be useful when speaking to a dyed-in-the-wool fundamentalist. Slogans do not allow for that flexibility.
Having said that, it is really only a minor philosophical criticism. Standing up for secularism is important!
