Here was me thinking appeasement died out with Neville Chamberlain.

Who do you imagine negotiating on behalf of the Palestinians? It certainly won’t be representative. They have never been allowed to govern themselves, ergo attacks like the most recent, cheered on by lunatics who don’t live with the consequences…

Yet another regional military conflict involving Iran:

Pakistan said it used killer drones and rockets to strike separatist Baloch militants inside Iran, in a retaliatory strike two days after Tehran said it attacked the bases of another group within Pakistani territory.
Iranian media said several missiles hit a village in the Sistan-Baluchestan province that borders Pakistan, killing at least nine people, including four children.
The neighbours have had strained relations in the past, but the strikes are the highest-profile cross-border intrusions in recent years and come amid growing worries about instability in the Middle East since the war between Israel and Hamas erupted on October 7.
Local state television quoted an anonymous Iranian official who said Iran strongly condemned the attack and "demanded an immediate explanation" from Pakistan.
Now that's just fucking weird. Israel-linked militants with bases in Pakistan? Sounds like bullshit...Pakistan's air strikes came two days after Iran said it had attacked Israel-linked militant bases inside Pakistani territory.

This is going well. Almost as if allowing Israel to kill indiscriminately isn't the best option.

Yeah, but they've got to shoehorn the Jews in as the cause of every world conflict.

I don't know. It's complicated. It's difficult. But it's necessary.
Every military conflict either ends in a negotiated peace or in occupation, and an occupation isn't a democracy and requires the perpetual suppression of the occupied, as we've seen in Israel-Palestine for the last 70+ years. The impulse of the Israeli govt and opposition at the moment is to say domestically that they're looking to 'utterly blot out the memory of Palestine from under heaven' (a deliberate biblical reference), and internationally to say they intend to completely defeat Hamas and then continue the occupation and control of Palestinian land and the suppression of Palestinian people indefinitely. The first necessitates genocide and ethnic cleansing, the second perpetuates the conditions that lead to October 7 - conditions which render the so-called 'two state solution' functionally impossible.
There's only one way to resolve the claim these two distinct demographics have to the same land, to the same 'right to exist', and that's by negotiating an end to perpetual conflict towards a secular, free, democratic 'one state solution' that grants all civilians equal status and equal rights of citizenship and representation. In other words, to reset the country to a paradigm that doesn't necessitate conflict or the imposition of structural apartheid and oppression by the powerful over the weak - including the weak on the easy side of the apartheid line. This requires international effort of course.

A single state with the people who perpetrated October 7th... what could possibly go wrong.

Think of it, Balochis are not iranian, but their community is divided between Iran, Pakistan and Adghanistan.... if some of those practice terrorism in Iran in service of their independentist cause, Israel might be quite tempted to support them...JimC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 18, 2024 8:32 pmYet another regional military conflict involving Iran:

There's issues on both sides, but there's already a single state, it just happens to be an oppressive apartheid state.Strontium Dog wrote:A single state with the people who perpetrated October 7th... what could possibly go wrong.

The important thing is to recall how peace came to America between the Red Indians and everyone else. Reservations and alcohol. Seems all that needs doing is to get them Gazans into some strong liquor. Which as a aside will lower their libidos and stop them going all stone age with the women out there...

If all else fails, just indulge in facile bothsidesism.
2 million Arabs live in Israel, where they enjoy equal rights and serve in government, the judiciary, the army etc.
How many Jews live in the Palestinian Territories?

How piss weak is the US? Netanyahu says no Palestinian state. The US says friends can disagree. The US can force Israel to accept a two-state solution. Just threaten cuts to their welfare bill.
