My problem is whether the EU will deem themselves bound by a vote of the commons when 2 whole years have gone by and the regulations say that the UK is technically out, whether they have managed to negociate a softer outing.

Scot Dutchy told us that the EU won't grant a delay. He also told us that the UK wouldn't be able to remain in the customs union.
