Part of an article in the Age this morning:
Markets point to Brits staying in EU
Sterling climbed to a 2016 high and global stocks rallied as investors bet Britons were likely to vote to remain in the European Union.
"The markets are the best judge of what is going to happen, and they are saying that Britain will remain. The key is the strong jump in the pound," said economist Peter Cardillo.

The pundits seem to be saying that remain will win...

the pundits have been known to be wrong, and the polling institutions refuse to work because the scores are so close that the error margin is too great.

Farage has just been on the telly saying he thinks Remain will 'edge it' but that the campaign has been a great success for UKIP.

Google updates the results every few minutes as they become available here.

As of a couple of minutes ago the figures are

Remain a member of the European Union 56.8% (84,726 votes)
Leave the European Union 43.2% (64,421 votes)
with 0.5% of the total counted.

With so few votes counted it doesn't mean a lot. As a mathematics teacher you are undoubtedly aware of that. Just now the result has flipped: Stay: 51.2%. Leave: 48.8% at 13% of the votes.

It might depend on whether either camp tend to be early voters or not...

More likely what polling booth submits results earlier or later. The very first result I saw was 95.3% in favour of staying. My guess is that it came from a polling booth in the CBD of London or some elitist suburb.

Now it's remain: 49.9%, stay: 50.1% with 29.6% counted. Pretty close, aye?

A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.
