I posted my review of the Finland history from an outfit that cranks out easily read history books. Uded copies end on eBay but only Amazon sells the new ones.

I found a few more books on the WWII era. Now I have $34.48 in the basket. I think they have AI making up the prices of things so you get exactly this. The free shipping comes at $35. Without it, the shipping is at least 8 dollars.

What can I order for $1? No idea.

Ended up with a 100 page "Oxford" book on the Russian revolution, with my total now $48.

I ordered some new phones at 10:51pm Wednesday and they arrived at 9:36am Thursday... less than 11 hours later.

Wait, it's like that your side too? We recently passed a law to force them to up the P&H for any book order under €35.

Ambulances called to Amazon’s UK warehouses 1,400 times in five years
Ambulances have been called out to Amazon warehouses more than 1,400 times in the past five years, the Observer can reveal. The figures, which were described as shocking by the GMB trade union, raise fresh questions about safety at the American giant’s UK workplaces.

Amazon centres in Dunfermline and Bristol had the most ambulance callouts in Britain, listing 161 and 125 across the period respectively.

A third of callouts by the Scottish Ambulance Service to the Amazon site in Dunfermline related to chest pains, with other callouts for convulsions, strokes and breathing problems recorded.

Ambulances have been called to Amazon Mansfield 84 times since 2019. More than 70% of those were for the most serious types of incidents – dubbed category 1 and 2, which can often relate to life-threatening conditions like heart attacks or strokes.

Attempted suicides or other serious psychiatric incidents were recorded at Amazon centres in Bolton, Chesterfield, Mansfield, Rugeley, London and many others...

This reminds of the "scandal" over suicides at Apple factories in China. Those factories are so gigantic, I actually worked out that the suicide rate among workers there was actually lower than in the general populace.

Lies, damned lies, statistics.

My advice to anyone who doesn't like the working conditions at Amazon is to not work there.

They are not Apple factories....they were Foxconn factories that make Apple products under contract so Apple had limited ability to control working conditions.
That said they did pressure Foxconn for improvements.
Apple is not the only client of Foxconn.

Because of the entwined stupidity regarding health insurance in the US it's not so simple for a bread winner to just walk.
