What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

I really wish you could post more obscurely. You make way too much sense.

It's the plane. It's underneath some kind of digital noise.

Speculations on the plane's whereabouts amuse me no end. It'll never be found because it landed in my garden and I ated it. The filling was delicious. It's passed through my digestive tract well over a month ago, been processed by the local sewerage treatment plant and whatever remained of it is now helping the turf on our local sports grounds grow. The closest the searchers can get to retrieving the plane and its content is to mow the lawns of our football, soccer and cricket ovals.

The other thing is that, when you hear a ping, if you know it pinged exactly on the hour, you can then calculate the distance, knowing the speed of sound in water. So if you have several pings, you can draw circles from your recorded positions, and where they intersect is the location of the box.

Maybe they already do that. It seems like simple stuff.

Except that sound travels at different velocities depending on water strata temp and turbidity. An audible ping on the hour can also reflect off one or more thermoclines (margins of water strata) and get picked up a half hour later in some strange land far away. The friction and gas noise from the BP Spill exiting the wellhead was picked up loud as shit in places in the Caribbean, 1200 miles away. Submarines try to use thermoclines to hide from each other's sonar back in the good old days when the US had the Soviets to kick up and down the submarine block.
That wouldn't apply in this case, where they have a rough idea of where to look.
It's very like thunder. You know that the initial sound was an instantaneous bang. But the thunder rumbles for ages, because of various reflections, as you said. But you can still work out the distance to the lightning strike, because you only take note of the very first sound, which traveled the shortest distance.
In the case of lightning, you see the flash, then count the seconds till you hear the first clap of thunder, and work out the distance.
In this case, you would know it pinged on the hour, you measure the time to the first recorded sound, and you can work out the range. Just like thunder, you can ignore the rumbles from reflections.

Well of course it does. But those factors are pretty well known, and you can work on an average figure, and get an approximate fix.
Each time you get a ping, you can narrow the search down.

There is now real doubt
among the experts that the underwater pings that they picked up were actually from the plane :
The daily record wrote: Further reports agree with the likelihood that pings believed to be from the missing flight MH370 were false.

Sources close to the operation suspect that the pings were not from the black box on the lost aircraft.

It has been reported that the frequency of the pings were not in line with what the plane should be transmitting.

Chief Coordinator of the JACC Angus Houston said the four underwater pings are still the most promising leads so far.
If they were false pings, the chances of ever finding the plane are pretty slim. It's such a huge area, with a fairly rough ocean floor, that finding it visually, or from shapes on a screen, seem very slim.

One thing they can be certain of: The plane has probably run out of fuel now.

If they weren't from the plane, what were they?

Obviously the Aliens.

Seriously, do you think if they can make a plane disappear, they wouldn't know how to make a pinger?

You didn't think this through, did you?

There's a lot about this world we don't know and it is one amongst billions of zillions. Don't mock the existence of underwater flying saucers. Where would you hide to observe humanity? The moon? :coffee:
