What DON'T Republicans weaponize for the culture war? The culture war is all the GOP has. Give that away and there's nothing left. They have no beliefs, other than "white Christians are the best people", but they can't say that out loud, so they just end up being anti whatever the sane people want.Brian Peacock wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:47 pmWhy is it so difficult for some people to see the pandemic for what it is, a pressing public health issue? Why do they have to weaponise it for the culture wars?

That's a good exposition of how the influence of governments and powerful interest groups can bias reporting, but

Why did Nigeria block twitter?

Re: Media Bias
Is twitter a government? Is Nigeria a private company? Should twitter be forced by governments to allow users to post snuff films on its platform?

Re: Media Bias
Is it any surprise that large corporations clearly and cooly see which way the wind blows in social changes? Of course they will adjust their corporate decision making, advertising and sponsorship deals to follow social trends, all to maximise their bottom line.
The cartoon above has that kernel of truth, but is also clearly part of the right's culture wars against gays and progressives, depicting them as supine slaves of cynical corporation. Gay people and progressives in general see quite clearly what corporations are all about.

Re: Media Bias
Another place this strikes me as vulgar, is in printing corporate logos on material the corporation knows will be litter.
Humans are known to litter. Printing logo's there makes sense for all the reasons printing logos makes sense.
If that makes little sense, I'm with you. Of course, McDonalds will still put their name on a significant amount of the trash in the world.

You don't see the similarity, between printing rainbows for vulgar marketing purposes, or printing logos deliberately on litter?

"Printing logos deliberately on litter" (whatever that means), has nothing to do with Jim's point.

Re: Media Bias
Littering is a complex issue. Clearly, a significant part of the problem is lazy, thoughtless people who cannot be bothered disposing of rubbish properly (hopefully into bins for recycling). But yes, another significant issue is the production of single-use packaging by both corporations and small business. If this single use packaging is, for example, cardboard, then at least it is either recyclable or at the very leat, biodegradable in the environment. If it is single use plastic, so much the worse.
But the logo thing is a minor part of the issue.

O Nooooooooo. I can't use this single use plastic cup. It has no logo on it!
