The OP was the OP. It is about a story currently in the news here about the Labour party and anti-Semitic elements within in. One theme running through it, if you can be arsed to read it up - which you owe if you choose to comment - is that it is a far left phenomenon. End of.

As far as I'm concerned, anti-semitism is no longer a special case of racism.

The war is long over. Jews are not in danger of being gassed any more. If you want to be racist, you can include jews if you like. It's no worse than being anti black or Indian or Polish or whatever.

And when the jewish state commits atrocities, it reflects on the whole Israeli Jewish population, and anyone who supports it.

And no, I don't accept that Israel has a right to exist. It's very funny that they want the paintings back, that the Nazis stole in WW2. But they don't want to give back the country that they stole.

Some of this stems from people on the thick end of criticism invoking racism as a means of deflection. Some of it is the Jewish equivalent of so-called Islamophobia - Jewophobia. I think the Jewish ritual practice of infant circumcision is disgraceful. Some would charge me with being a anti-Jewish bigot for expressing that view.

The manner in which you respond perhaps highlights the issue. One would be unlikely to say 'we have to accept the Christians without question', assuming that Jews are a group with a single identity and a single point of view. One does not even so that, as a rule with Islam.

I think it is perfectly possible to criticise Judaism - one sees it all the time FFS. Some of its practices are archaic and barbaric and people comment on that regularly. That doesn't make one anti-Semitic.

Similarly is is perfectly possible to criticise policies of the state of Israel without descending to anti-Semitism and prejudice, labelling all Jews in a particular and sometimes degrading manner.
