Perhaps so, but his eccentricity or raving lunacy is significantly less dangerous than others that are completely legal and in some instances even encouraged, such as preaching in way as to essentially solicit hostilities toward various unfavored groups, calling for legal legislation to imprison or execute members of those groups, etc.

Sure. I don't think what he does is evil or anything, but I also think it is unsurprising that he incurs sanctions from society.

They don't send harmless nutters like this to prison without bending over backwards to keep him out.
They haven't included in the article all of the warnings, suspended sentences, returns to court, etc etc that it's taken to get to this point.
But in the end, when you've ignored everything, and still defy the order of the court, they have no choices left.

A court in Britain doesn't have the option of saying, ''ok, we can't stop you, so we'll ignore it''.
Orders of a court have to be enforced, or the whole system breaks down.

He's clearly deluded, but not mad enough to commit. Deluded that what he's doing is worth anything. But rational apart from that. The only option left is prison, till he stops.
He's currently doing about 2.5 years. You can bet he's had countless shorter sentences leading up to this one, which have had no effect.

It's not illegal to be naked in public in the UK. It is illegal to cause someone distress by being so though.

That sounds a little absurd. Anyone could claim to be distressed over anything, even bumper stickers or statements on clothing, etc.
