Getting back to the Taliban situation, I'd be betting that this atrocity against a military school might be the extra emotional motivation the Pakistani military needed, in order to go into Taliban-controlled areas with blood in their eye and murder in their heart...

Well according to the big cheese there, they are no longer going to distinguish between the "good" Taliban and the "bad" Taliban. That's the public statement. Whether the private intent matches that will yet to be seen.

They'll probably mount some big operations that surround big bunches of Taliban assholes, which they'll turn loose after a week to celebrate Ramadan.
They'll probably target kids first though. It's still Pakistan.

I reckon Islam seems to see kids with a bit of a libertarian bent. That is, they are nothing overly special. They are just another thing in the world one has to compete with.

No. It's "Women and children last" in the Muslim world. I have friends, a married couple, who survived a ferry wreck off Indonesia and spent over 60 hours floating in the Celebes Sea fighting sharks and rapists after the crew threw all the women out of the lifeboats so men could have seats and the ship sank. Only about 200 of the estimated 1200 people on the boat lived through it, with sharks and counter currents taking care of all but a handful of those who didn't make the lifeboats.
