I would like to know that Mr. Jonno's Utopian dream looks like. Not sure that I would like it, but I would like to know how he envisions it.

-meh, I wish I knew how to do a lot more.

As for the independence bit I'm not sure my attempts at DIY qualify. For a project I like to read other peoples advice. I often speak to someone more knowledgeable than myself, many times I have to talk to multiple people. I may ask someone to give me a hand. I have to buy supplies. Many supplies are manufactured just for DIY attempts. I don't see how any of that is more independent than paying and forgetting.

In my experience I'm far better at most things then the "professionals" I've been forced to hire. The level of incompetence and lack of professional pride are appalling. In Florida you're allowed to act as your own general contractor if you're doing work on your own residence, but not on investment properties. I've been forced to hire plumbers and electricians to do work on the rental properties, and to date I've had to redo over half their work. Luckily a mate of mine has passed his GC licensing exams and will pull the paperwork for me if I pay the fees and give him a couple of cases of beer, so I'm set to start tearing down and rebuilding a poorly constructed addition to the new rental duplex.

Should be a nice project. The current addition is about 400 square feet and is set up as two bedrooms. I'm going to tear down the addition and gut the remaining interior, turn the current living room into a bedroom, and put one bedroom and a large living/dining/kitchen in the new addition. I'll expand the bathroom and put in a nice walk in shower, maybe a tub. It's got one of those shitty Home Depot corner shower units now. Thinking of adding a screened porch also, but we'll see how that goes.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Oh Jonno, you live such a sheltered existence
The more sheltered the better, if I ever get fed up I suppose I can find some desert island and go around ripping throats out of wild pigs with my teeth but until then air conditioning, the microwave and electricity coming out of a hole in the wall while I drink a cold beer

Are you sure it's wise to drink beer? I think we should have a committee meeting to discuss whether or not ordinary citizens should be allowed to drink beer without proper certification. Oh, by the way, it seems your microwave oven has come unplugged. An electrician should be arriving shortly to plug it back in for you. On a related note, I'm sorry but it seems the HVAC man won't be available to come round and change your thermostat settings 'till next Tuesday.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

While society decides I safe to drink beer I will do so (if society changes it mind which it has the right to do I might move on to wine).

Funny you should mention an unplugged oven, I did have an unplugged fridge I think something knocked the plug partially out and it stopped working. Oh well it was quite a old fridge and I did fancy a new one anyway.

Thermostat never could get that to work properly, I like the fact that the UK never really gets that cold so not a biggie

Every person finds their own place on the spectrum of DIY vs call a pro. I can change a washer on a tap, but that's it for plumbing. Other repair stuff I can do...

Don't real men drink like fish, smoke like chimneys and drop dead from a heart-attack in their early 50s?

-indeed, it's the idea that you shouldn't at all, because I don't at all, that's strange.

I've avoided the first two, so I'm hoping to dodge the third one as well. :levi:

Luckily the all things pink and cute for girls, all things tough and active for boys is slowly but surely going the way of the dodo. Unfortunately DaveDodo007 isn't quite dead yet. His sexism sucks, but what other attitude can you expect from an MRA?

My ex-partner is very good at home renovation and vintage furniture restoration. She has done plenty of both.
That should be the case but were is the evidence, women still tend to go for comfy office work. Whining about shared housework and going quiet when the gutters need cleaning out or the roof tiles need fixing, repairing the car or any painting outdoors. Sure you can find the exception to the rule but I'm still waiting for all this equality to balance out. Also were is this I'm a MRA crap coming from, they are beta males wh o think claiming victim status will help them get sympathy when the gynocracy has that angle sewn up. There is nothing wrong with equal (rights wise) but different through biology. There are too many on this site who are cultural Marxist and have swallowed feminist ideology. Still your loss just don't think you will get away with censorship.

Fucking Jesus Christ, what is happening to men? I have been helping my brother in law move to his new flat these last few days and WTF. He did more than his share of lifting as well he should. Though FFS I had to install the gas cooker, the washing machine and fix his boiler. Simple DIY seems to be beyond him and as for light fitting anything more than screwing in a light bulb was out of his league. It wasn't even just him none of his mates had a clue and one even said he had to pay some workmen to set up his flat. This should be basic shit that any man should know. We are rearing nations of useless men and how sad is that. Even my wife had to repair the joke that was his decorating as she had never seen so many bubbles in the wallpaper. OK so this ancedote and a opinion piece but I'm witnessing this more and more.
Why is it only men should be able to do this stuff?? :ask:

Dimorphism, the way are minds are wired?
After we had all finished I got some beers in and made him watch the movies4men (some John Wayne real man shit) channel whilst I give my wife a slape on the ass and told her to make us a sandwich. So what is a week without sex and sleeping on the settee as it wont break me and I needed to set a good example. Though I feel it is too late. :x
I really hope you don't have a wife. For her sake..
One thing I do like about you and ratz in general is the sense of humour, it is looking like your feminist ideology is getting away from that; your loss I suppose.
