Sandi is jealous and in denial. He wishes he was American and can't admit it to himself let alone anyone else. :ddpan:
He probably has a drawer full of American flag boxer shorts.

Maybe this will get through your melon...

How about if I wrote this:
Ian wrote:very offensive. :o Chinese? They even blur butt cracks and dick outlines etc on "reality" tv. A society scared of sex on one side, yet having a huge porn industry on the other? WTF?
Or how about if I wrote this:
Ian wrote:very offensive. :o Mexicans? They even blur butt cracks and dick outlines etc on "reality" tv. A society scared of sex on one side, yet having a huge porn industry on the other? WTF?
Would that not look pretty stupid and bigoted to others?
Now... suppose someone from Shanghai or Mexico City wrote back that making such statements were wrong... and I replied by calling him a patriotic racist idiot. Would that not look even more stupid and bigoted on my part?

Sandi... You. Are. A. Bigot. If you really can't see any truth to this, then you're an idiot too.

whatever, if the chinese or mexican did that, then you would be right to mention it. It's a fact, the US does that. The problem is...that statement is NOT wrong...racist moron.

I could mention plenty of other facts about what one can find on TV or in music in the US. Ever seen HBO or Shotime late at night?

There might be Kernels of Truth for people who despise black culture, or Jews, or Greeks, or whatever. Would it be right for one to trot them out for the sake of blanket smearing statements? Of course not. You're having to resort to kernels of truth for your bigotry.

HBO and showtime are specialty channels, I'm only talking about mainstream US networks. For fuck sake ian, there are blanket statements about all kinds of countries and people on this forum (and every forum) about "terrorists", Muslims, christians, catholics, countries in the middle east, N.Korea, cuba, venezuala etc. You're just super defensive about the good 'ol USA, a super defensive super patriot. You think your country doesn't have very strange attitudes towards sex...fuck sake

1) "Specialty channels" or not, they're not porn. And I for one have no problem with mainstream networks blurring out nudity. It has nothing to do with my "society being scared of sex". FFS that's dumb. It has to do with my having small children in the house, and there's only so much I want to expose them to at such young ages. I intend for them to grow up to have healthy and active sex lives, but I don't want imitated behavior or questions that awkward from a four or six-year old! The US is not unique in such censorship either - can you find porn on daytime network TV in Canada, or France, or Japan? Not that I know of. I don't suppose you have kids?

2) Calling me a super patriot is super stupid. You find excuses to write about hating anything and everything about this country, and I just call you wrong for being so completely hateful. It doesn't mean I love everything about my country and will happily defend all of it. That's far, far from the truth and I think you know it.

I have to concur with Sandinista. We are not talking about porn on TV but about seeing a tiny bit of flesh around the breast area. How does that disturb a young child? And if it does, it is living proof that something's wrong with the attitude of most people towards sex. This doesn't have to be exclusively Americans, but they seem to show that behaviour a lot more than, say, Europeans.

I don't think "a tiny bit of flesh around the breast area" is any problem on American TV, network or otherwise. And what's seen and said on regular TV channels nowadays is a lot more permissive than it was when I was a kid. I don't think TV here is repressive at all. How much American TV do you watch, or are you just going by reputation?

I agree that Europeans censor less when it comes to nudity in the mainstream media. However, in the US cable channels are becoming more and more mainstream, and I can honestly say that they show much more nudity and graphic sex than I saw on the average cable channels in France, Germany or the UK.

A 46 year old married man, yes. I bet some of the people who have no problem with it on this thread would be all over him if he were Republican.

Just to clarify - my post was about the already derailed discussion about America's attitude to nudity and sex. It was by no means referring to the original topic of this thread.
