Superman to Renounce U.S. Citizenship!

The Chinese paid him a hell of lot to do this didn't they? How long ago did they buy him?

I suppose he can reside at the Fortress of Solitude. The problem is, we don't know where that is, exactly. If it's in the arctic, then it may or may not be on the territory of one of the nation's bordering on the arctic. Each country bordering the arctic has at a minimum a right to 200 miles offshore, and that can even be extended to up to 400 miles offshore if it can be shown that the continental shelf extends further out.

So, the problem is - where is this Fortress of Solitude? It may be that superman's Fortress is in Russian territory, and this may be his reason for wanting to renounce his citizenship. If he renounces his American citizenship it may be a way to avoid an international incidence, if the Russians find out that he has been on their territory for 80 years.... Alternatively, if he is on US territory, and renounces his citizenship, unless he qualifies for and gets a green card or a visa, he will be an illegal alien on US land.

One possibility might be if Krypton were recognized by the UN as a member of the community of nations. Then Superman could be a Kryptonian. The Fortress of Solitude, if it happens to be in stateless territory, outside of all arctic nations, then it could be granted UN membership with a population of 1. Then superman might be able to get visas as needed from the various countries around the world when he needs to enter their territories.
