People who do poorly on IQ tests always have gripes. I tried to figure out why but it was beyond me. Could be something to do with being smart?

British teenagers have lower IQs than their counterparts did 30 years ago

Tests carried out in 1980 and again in 2008 show that the IQ score of an average 14-year-old dropped by more than two points over the period.

Among those in the upper half of the intelligence scale, a group that is typically dominated by children from middle class families, performance was even worse, with an average IQ score six points below what it was 28 years ago.

The trend marks an abrupt reversal of the so-called "Flynn effect" which has seen IQ scores rise year on year, among all age groups, in most industrialised countries throughout the past century.

Doesn't anyone understand natural selection any more?

Retrograde evolution is inevitable when people spend their lives within protective bubbles through multiple generations. And who lives in the most protective of bubbles? The middle and upper classes, of course. And which class shows the greatest reduction in average I.Q.? The middle class.

Lest anyone think they've seen a loophole: the poor in developed countries also live in protective bubbles, except not quite as protective as the more fortunate classes. The poor are subjected to slightly more selective pressure than the higher classes, which probably explains why the data indicates that the poor are slightly less dumbed down than the middle class.

If the goal of civilization is to put everyone inside a soft, warm bubble of cradle-to-grave security, then something will have to be implemented to replace the resulting defunct natural selection process.

It's like the people who take an SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) and score under 1000. They always think the test is unfair. Couldn't be that the test taker doesn't know much....
