Have you ever tried non-verbal responses? Just point at one? In the above case it's really not that much of a choice, is it?

But, by Jingo, if we do,
We've got the ships, we've got the men,
And we've got the money too.

Jingoism is just a nationalism with a little reckless war-fever to spice it up. Sorta like a college football game with guns.RuleBritannia wrote:Don't forget jingoism, patriots maybe annoying, nationalists maybe twats, but jingos are dangerous.
I don't know, perhaps there's a better word for it. I am fond of this country and what it could become if we ever get over ourselves. i could go on about how similar the word "Patriotism" is to "Fatherland" but the Godwin squad might come for me in the night.
Edited to delete a quote and a repetition.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

Members of the armed forces of the U.S. are required to swear an oath of allegiance to...
the constitution.
Not the government, not even the people. They are not required to obey unlawful orders from anyone, not even the commander in chief. OTC, they are required not to obey unlawful orders.
In fact, they are required by their oath to take action against any enemy of the constitution, irrespective of said enemy's nationality or place of residence.
Thus, in the eyes of the U.S. armed forces, patriotism is allegience to a set of ideas and laws, not to a country, not to a person, not to a population.
If you don't deserve to be defended, then the armed forces acknowledge no obligation to defend you. Thus, if you don't deserve to be defended, you'll be needing some luck. IOW, don't call us. We'll call you.
Do you fucking understand?

Of course you don't. You are hiding among those the armed forces do feel obligated to defend.Tails Turrosaki wrote:Yes but I don't give two shits.Toontown wrote:Members of the armed forces of the U.S. are required to swear an oath of allegiance to...

He can have all the slack he wants, as long as he keeps his ass out of the armed forces and his hands off the constitution.Gawdzilla wrote:Toon, Tails is fourteen. What's wrong with a little friendly advice? Is a 14's brain considered too undeveloped for grown-up advice?

Re: Patriotism and Nationalism
What are you getting all pseudo-morally superior about? I was talking about the military oath of allegiance, which every member of the armed forces takes. The oath says what it says. Presumably it means what it says. You presumably took it. So what did you think it meant?Gawdzilla wrote:*pat, pat, pat*Toontown wrote:What gun? Is he an enemy of the constitution?
