But that was 123 years ago, I really can't see how it's a comparison. I don't know why you're giving me the roll eyes I didn't say all Americans were stupid, just this one. In fact I'm saying he shouldn't be ignorant because he's an American and came through a good education system. So you really think that an educated American, who came through a good education system, actually thinks that islands tip over and wasn't just using colorful language to say that he's concerned about overpopulation of the island?RuleBritannia wrote: I don't know why you're giving me the roll eyes I didn't say all Americans were stupid, just this one. I am just as concerned about this guy's lack of brain cells by virtue of his inability to describe the length and width of an island. He sounds like a flippin' moron. "This is an island that at its widest level is what, 12 miles from shore to shore and at its smallest level ...uhhhh....uhhhh....location it's uhhhh...seven miles uhhhh.....between one shore and the other....is that correct?" .... witness speaks ..clarifying that it is a small island... then Johnson says, "...very small island and it's 24 miles....if I recall...long ....24 miles long...about seven miles wide at the least widest ...uhhh....uhhh...place on the island ...and uhhh...about 20...uhh..about twelve...miles....wide...uhhh...on da widest part of da island...and ummm....I don't know how many square miles that...that is...do you happen to know?" Witness confirms he doesn't and can supply it (guess it's too much trouble for the Congressman or his staff to flippin' google it)Jörmungandr wrote:And you can tell he's American, because he's stupid and thinks islands tip over.RuleBritannia wrote:

....then Johnson says.."uhhh...my fear is...that the whole island will uhhh...become so overly populated that it will tip over and uhhh...and uhhh...capsize" There is not even the hint of a smirk or even the least change in his delivery. Nobody in the room laughs. And, the witness says, "Um, we don't anticipate that - the um.. Guam population, currently about 175,000 and again with 8,000 marines and their families that's an addition of about 25,000 uhhh more into the population."
Johnson then says, "uhhhh...and also uhhh..things like de uhhh...environment ...uhh...the sensitive areas of the environment...coral reefs and those kinds of things...and I I know, ya' know, lots o' people don't like ta think about that but ya know we don't like to think about global warming either and ummmmm....now we do have to think about it...and so...I'm concerned from an environmental standpoint whether or not Guam is the best place ta do dis relocation...but, it's actually the only place, is that correct?" Witness states that it is the best place, and is the farthest west territory that we own...
I mean what ....the....fuck? The issue is sending 8,000 marines and their families to Guam and increasing the population of Guam from 175,000 to about 200,000. It takes this fucking moron over a minute to puzzle out the dimensions of the island - between 7 and 12 miles wide and 24 miles long - and he asks the general what the square mileage is! I know they have wireless internet in the Capitol building - and in LITERALLY (not figuratively) LITERALLY three seconds I googled this: https://www.cia.gov/library/publication ... os/gq.html - I mean - come on...
And, this guy, after contemplating the capsizing of the island, he wants to talk about coral reefs. Really? Fucking REALLY???
Look - Manhattan Island is 13 miles long and 2 1/3 miles wide at its widest and can accommodate what? 6-9 million people at a time?
Anyone listening to this video that comes away thinking Johnson is anything other than an idiot...I have to wonder...

I really want to believe that. But, listen to what the guy says throughout the video. The rest of it sounds almost as moronic.Jörmungandr wrote:So you really think that an educated American, who came through a good education system, actually thinks that islands tip over and wasn't just using colorful language to say that he's concerned about overpopulation of the island?RuleBritannia wrote: I don't know why you're giving me the roll eyes I didn't say all Americans were stupid, just this one. What is the advantage of the "colorful language" used here anyway? What is the military witness going to say to that? Exactly what he said - "we don't anticipate that happening."
EVEN IF it is colorful language used to make a point, it is STILL idiotic in the extreme. This jackalope is getting paid $174,000 a year and THAT is what he's asking the military at a hearing about whether 25,000 more people should go to Guam? Really? If I was that guy's boss I'd fire his ass immediately. He's useless and WASTING TIME AND MONEY. If he has a point - make it. If the is an environmental issue, state what the issue fucking is and ask the military witness how they plan to address it.
Asking the guy whether the island is going to capsize, even figuratively, is a useless waste of time (and money).
We need to cut these assholes' salaries. 435 Representatives and 100 Senators, each making $174,000 a year is $93,090,000 a year for these dip-shits to ask stupid-ass questions. And, I calculated that in about 5 seconds, while this asshole wastes a minute-and-a-half trying to figure out the length, width and area of Guam!

I don't disagree that he drones on and sounds like an idiot doing so, and that he should have actually made a point instead of making vague pokes at something something environment. I just think it's silly to think he actually believes guam is going to tip over.

The world is full of "silly", honestly - looking at half the people on the internet, it really wouldn't surprise me.

The problem is that he seems to really think that. There is nothing in his delivery - in the context - in anything at all he's saying - that remotely suggests that he is kidding. He doesn't smile. He doesn't clarify afterward with an "of course I'm being facetious...but my point is..."Jörmungandr wrote:Coito ergo sum wrote:I really want to believe that.
