Seriously though, the Republican party just works itself out?

Perhaps the only glimmer of hope is that every single Republican is obsessed with not dying poor. I think most thinking people realise that Trump is bad for business - on so many levels. Everybody knows that things are shit when looked at from the bottom, and everyone know that's exactly where most of us are standing. Still, I don't know how you can really counter the years of gaslighting, fear mongering, lying, cheating, and unabashed hypocrisy that the Republican Party have now baked into their brand and narratives.

We have to start telling ourselves better stories about ourselves I guess.
