Same here. Presbyopia combined with far-sightedness. LASIK can fix one problem only by making the other one worse.

Re: Utah official state firearm
I already get nighttime driving glare, though I suspect that it's my glasses, despite the anti-glare coating. I've been considering Intacs recently, looks like a relatively simple outpatient procedure and I get a barely noticeable plastic ring inside my eye to signify my status as a cyborg.Seth wrote:Been there, done that. You might want to check with a LASIK expert with the latest equipment just to be sure. I was told the same thing by my eye doctor, but when I went to the clinic and saw one of the doctors who pioneered the procedure, he said he could do it.Jörmungandr wrote:My doctor told me LASIK's not an option for me. Take a shotglass and look through the bottom of it, that's my right eye with glasses.Seth wrote:
I had that too, just barely under the maximum for LASIK. I had LASIK for <20/400 vision. Now I have 20/20 in both eyes.
Changed my life, and I wouldn't go back for anything, even though I do have some nighttime driving glare.

I am a bionic man, both my lenses were replaced by plastic versions because of cataracts.
As well, I have had laser surgery to repair a detached retina, which was a bit scary...
I am fine to drive, and have glasses for close up work, but I have lots of floaters, and my vision is not up to the precise shooting I used to do. If I can't take a bunny out with a single head shot, I won't shoot...

Cataract surgery is next on the agenda, although I have only a very mild Class 1 in both eyes. Just gives me a little haze, not too bad, but eventually I may have to have new lenses. I've got a few floaters too, but I can still shoot dynamite at 740 meters, so I guess I'm good for a while yet. Of course the diabetes may get my eyesight completely someday, if I don't keep on my sugars. I did read an article in the JAMA magazine indicating that the potential for blindness from Type II is less than 15 percent.JimC wrote:I am a bionic man, both my lenses were replaced by plastic versions because of cataracts.

I have I don't know how many pairs of reading glasses scattered everywhere. That's one good thing about cheap Chinese crap, you can now get four or five pair for 20 bucks at Sam's Club, as opposed to 60 bucks each at an optical shop.

And then there's Mississippi.

Defecating dog sparks US shootoutTwo neighbours in the US state of Mississippi drew weapons and fired at each other as an argument over a defecating dog ran out of control.
Associated Press news agency said Jerry Blasingame, 60, has been charged with assault for shooting Terry Tehnet, 52, with a shotgun.
Mr Tehnet was angry because he thought Mr Blasingame's dog had defecated on his lawn, in a rural part of the state.
Mr Tehnet, whose injuries are not life-threatening, may also be charged.
The two men gave AP different versions of what happened.
'Meet me at the levee'
Mr Tehnet said he visited his neighbour to complain about dog "poop" on his property.
Mr Blasingame blamed him for shooting his dog the week before, Mr Tehnet said, and told him: "Just meet me at the levee and I'll shoot you down."
Mr Blasingame told AP he got his gun and drove off but Mr Tehnet did not follow so he returned to the neighbourhood.
The two men confronted one another again and each claimed the other produced a weapon first.
"He shot twice, I returned fire," said Mr Blasingame.
Mr Tehnet said Mr Blasingame opened fire first with his shotgun so he took his pistol from his car and fired back.
He said he was hit in both hands, the shoulder, chest and side by shotgun pellets, AP reported.
Washington County Chief Deputy Sheriff Billy Barber said: "Homeowners and property owners need to respect each other's property... If a dog did that in your yard, call the law. Don't take matters into your own hands."

Lot of gun control advocates think the vast majority of US homicides are incidents like this.

Re: Utah official state firearm
Well, at least the US authorities stopped this Australian arsehole from buying the guns he wanted... http://www.theage.com.au/world/malkoun- ... 1cakv.html
A US judge has deemed convicted Australian heroin trafficker Elie Malkoun a "flight risk" and refused him bail after fresh allegations about his desire to buy guns in Arizona were raised in court.
Malkoun, 53, one of the masterminds of a multi-million dollar heroin trafficking ring in Australia in the 1980s that resulted in him being sentenced to an 18-year jail sentence in Victoria, looked tired as he sat with his ankles and wrists shackled during the hearing in the District Court in downtown Phoenix, Arizona, on Friday.
"What's going on here?" a surprised Malkoun, dressed in an orange prison jumpsuit, blurted out when told of the prosecution case against him.
Advertisement: Story continues below Malkoun was arrested in Arizona on Sunday after he attended a gun show and is accused of illegally purchasing three pistols: a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol; a Sig Sauer .45 calibre pistol; and a Colt model Mustang Pocket Light .38 calibre pistol.
Malkoun was in the US on a 90-day tourist visa, making it illegal for him to buy the weapons.
In new evidence revealed in court by prosecutor Christina Wu, Malkoun allegedly entered a Mesa, Arizona, sports store last week and tried to buy a gun with a "laser sight" and "extended capacity magazine".
Store employees refused to sell him the gun because he only had Australian identification, Ms Wu said.
Malkoun allegedly offered the store employees "more money" for the weapon, but again they refused, the prosecutor alleged.
Malkoun then allegedly went out to the store's car park and asked other shoppers if they would buy him the gun.
"It certainly draws concerns from the United States," Ms Wu told Judge James Metcalfe during the bail hearing.
Agents from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) first detected Malkoun at the gun show and have launched an investigation into what he was doing in the US.
The court heard that after Malkoun landed in Los Angeles on March 13 from a flight from Australia, he travelled to Mexico, spent six days there, before driving in a rental car back to the US.
Ms Wu said Malkoun had Victorian and NSW driver licences, but they had different names, addresses and date of births on them.
It was also alleged Malkoun did not admit to his heroin trafficking conviction in a US entry form he filled out prior to his arrival in the US.
Malkoun entered a not guilty plea to the count of possessing a firearm illegally.
"I do find that he is a flight risk so I will order he be detained," Judge Metcalfe said.

Wow. In Arizona, no less. Recent press coverage would have us believe anybody could buy a gun anytime there.

painly wrong.
People with too deep a tan are more likely to get arrested than sold anything.
Plus everybody knows that if you want to buy guns, TX is the place to go... you can even open carry them, not too many question asked.

AZ allows open carry, not TX. And you think there are no non-caucasian pawn shops or firearms dealers? Dude. Really. Spend some time there before making blanket statements like this, please.Svartalf wrote:painly wrong.

http://www.google.co.kr/search?sourceid ... +carry+law
TexasTexas is not a traditional open carry state. They also do not allow open carry, or even printing, by those who have a concealed carry permit.
Summary
http://www.opencarry.org/az.htmlArizonaArizona is one of our "Gold Star" open carry states. There is complete state preemption of all firearms laws, open carry is common and law enforcement is well educated as to its legality. NOTE:Tribal reservations have their own laws and should be avoided or researched prior to visiting.
Summary
And "the place to buy guns" has less to do with the state than it does the person. If you know where to go and have unmarked cash, you can get a fully-auto AK-47 without any paperwork at all.
