In Britain, there is a law prohibiting people who commit crimes from profiting from them.
Is there no similar law in the US?
Yes. My guess is that he hasn't been found guilty of anything yet, so he can still profit.

anyone wants to place some bets how long before a movie comes out?

Hey, I'm still waiting for Casey Anthony's movie.

Come to think of it, why do all these freaks come from Florida? :hehe:

Some states have a similar law. As has been pointed out, he's currently presumed not to have committed a crime, pending trial, though.

If it's actually a legal defense fund, it's not his money anyway, so he's not profiting from it anyway.

They all move here from the West coast. We get all the freaks - Casey Anthony was from Ohio, Ted Bundy was born in Vermont, Zimmerman is from Virginia, Aileen Wuornous was from Michigan. Maybe we need to kick out all the Damn Yankees and other furriners, clean the state up a bit.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

From Florida:

Ottis Toole, John Whitman, Adolpho Constanzo.... and Vanilla Ice.

The first three are forgivable. :nono:

C'mon now, Ice Baby and El Padrino are from Miami, which is actually part of Cuba. I'll have to cop to Toole, since he was from Jacksonville and that isn't actually part of Georgia though it should be. But who is John Whitman?

Well, we can tell all the "good hearted" citizens contributing to his fund, that zimmerman's lawyers are going to make a killing out of this. whether they loose or win, they get to "keep" the money. so keep pouring those dollars in.

Zimmerman is really making a rod for his own back.
He tells the court on oath at the bail hearing that he hasn't got any money. But "forgets" to mention that he, a man with no money, has received over $200,000 dollar in donations.

Bill Gates might forget $200,000 dollars, but a man with no money?

Now he's going to have to convince a court that he's telling the truth, when he says he had no option but to kill an unarmed seventeen-year-old kid. Because his case rests on HIS story being believable.
If a jury decides that he's lying, that he wasn't in genuine fear of his life, but just mad at being hit, he's going to be convicted.

And the evidence IS against him. The minor nature of his injuries, the young age and slight build of his victim, the experience of being a bouncer, all point to someone who would not be in fear of his life in such a brawl, but who just pulled the gun because he had it, he was angry at being hit, and thought he could get away with claiming self defence, by screaming his head off first.

If the jury don't believe him, he's had it. And lying on oath, if you do take the oath at a bail hearing, will be used to cast major doubt on his truthfulness.
While there is a market for shit, there will be assholes to supply it.

Yea, what a coward. Only big man because of his gun. My daughter would have beet the crap out of him and taken his gun away at the same time.

Hell, I'd beat the crap out of him and poke his eyes out if he started following me.

Charles Whitman killed 16 people from the top of it. It's in Dallas. University of Texas, IIRC.
