In our current system, doctors, hospitals and other health care providers are paid by a number of insurers, and those insurers all pay them slightly different prices. In general, private insurance pays medical providers more than Medicare does. Under a Medicare for all system, Medicare would pick up all the bills. Look at it this way - every government program has 10 times the bureaucracy needed and costs 10 times as much as their "estimates". That's the nature of government programs, they have to be everything to everybody otherwise someone yells "UNFAIR!!!". That costs a lot, just look at Obamacare. Why does anyone think that Medicare for All or single payer or whatever is going to be any more efficient or cost effective? Look at the NHS, look at single payer all over the world - they're always bitching about how they need Mo' Money. There's always an excuse (and villains) to explain poor outcomes, and the excuses always start with "not enough funding" and the villains are always "the Other Party". So whatever they start with - 20 Billion, 1,4 Trillion, whatever - know that within a couple of years it will be three times that. They'll start running out of money and people won't cough up more, so standards will drop, people will be lying in hallways for a week, and we have all the usual complaints you see on FB every single day. Our Betters, those Congresscritters and suchlike, will have their own systems and hospitals just like they have now. The rich fuckers will have their own systems and hospitals, just like they have now. We'll get the crumbs, just like we always have, but now with Higher Taxes! (The Good of the Many, man, don't be so fucking selfish!)
