The latest fad is a poverty social. Every woman must wear calico,
and every man his old clothes. In addition each is fined 25 cents if
he or she does not have a patch on his or her clothing. If these
parties become a regular thing, says an exchange, won't there be
a good chance for newspaper men to shine?

I know exactly what I am discussing. You are the one who thinks he so clever he can beat the FB programmers. They dont ask any permission from anyone. Do you think your secret service does? Apps use location without your knowledge or are you so naive. That is the intrinsic problem with phones. They dont need your permission. You make think they do but they dont. If you give it or not does not matter. I am really surprised at you pErv. I was a programmer for 25 years so dont tell me how to suck eggs. You are either totally naive or frightened of the truth.

rEv, while it seems to me you personally are taking plenty of precautions, and would not be data-mined by FB, there are millions who take no precautions at all, and their lives are open books to various interested parties...

So what? I hope the solution isn't to get into our bunkers. Yeah, they are developing some scary stuff, no doubt about that. --think zero-day mind hacks-- But fuck'em. --fuck them. I'm not just talking about really scary shit either, fuck them when they fire that elementary school teacher for posting inappropriate pics on her Facebook too. Don't they only get away with that because you give a shit? Even people who don't care that she posted them will say something like: 'she should've known better'. Hell, I've got idiots trying to convince me to be professional 24/7, to adopt the same persona everywhere online, they're making it an ethical, even a moral issue! --maybe we've already lost then?

I never post pictures of kids on Facebook. When I was camp counselor, the staff dud that for the parents.

Other volunteer activities, I never post the kids. The adults only at a distance so you can see the activity but not much of the faces.

I do have an album calked protests, those were events for some cause. I assume people are there to protest or promote.

CA has absolutely nothing to do with how your phone's location service runs, nor with how the permissions system works.

CA isn't a conspiracy. They just purchased Facebook's data, the same as any other company can purchase it.

It is what they demanded that required FB to collect the data it did.

Huh?

You are making almost zero sense. Neither facebook nor CA can determine your location if you set your phone to deny location data. To think otherwise is to enter Galaxian territory.

When did software do everything it was meant to do? Do you think turning anything off on a phone is actually tuning it off? Just check your apps.

--meh, it only takes one leak anywhere to give it up

The problem we all have is a limited imagination. How long were people using their favorite VPN before they realized that in certain circumstances their real IP would still be visible due to IPv6 leaks and others?

Then of course there are the actual creative methods. Imagine a machine learning algorithm able to categorize locations using features based on your posting habits.

Now imagine actual scientists, data and social and computer all working together to come up with interesting ways to use your data...

That's why I'm all in your face bout who I am bro!

It's easy to check with network sniffers. Not that I've done it, but there's a million geeks out there who would immediately notify the world that your phone was illegally snooping or leaking.
