Same as most things, we have second hand news and our brains too...but you can't expect facts in the clinical sense from a voodoo subject like sociology can you?

Re: Jason Arday - Supergenius
It's hard to say (still being investigated by the uni that blatantly used his appointment to boost their branding), but parts of his doctoral thesis failed the ai plagiarism test. Thing is, the PhD and research work of other tenured academics has failed those tests but they've not been outed by the broadsheets, hounded by the press, had daytime tv hosts assassinating their character on an hourly basis, or seen countless 'content providers' manufacturing rampant psychological supposition for the clicks, likes and shares. The only feature that distinguished this from many other similar cases was the colour of his skin - so it can only really be that factor which has elevated this apparent #OUTRAGE to the level of a national scandal.pErvinalia wrote:So did he cheat?

Re: Jason Arday - Supergenius
Tens of thousands pay tribute to Jason Arday at Trafalgar Square vigil
...Stand Up to Racism, which organised the vigil, estimated that 30,000 mourners had gathered in the square to listen to emotional speeches from MPs, friends and campaigners on Arday’s life and legacy and join in a minute’s silence...
...Ribeiro-Addy asked that people respect the privacy of Arday’s family, who “lost their son, their brother. Not a professor, not a headline, not a symbol.” She asked that they be given “time, space and quiet” to grieve.
She concluded the vigil by reading out a statement from Arday’s family. They said: “The public cruelty Jason was subjected to was too much for any man to bear. The outpouring of love, support, and grief since his death means so much to us. Although it is bittersweet now, kindness is needed in life, not just in death.”...
...Samira Ali, an organiser at Stand Up to Racism, read out a statement from a close friend and colleague of Arday, which said: “Prof Jason, the words kind, beautiful and gentle seem to orbit so many dedications to him and they are not wrong. But in truth, words will never quite capture the type of person Prof Jason was or what he meant to people.”
The statement referenced Arday’s work setting up mentoring schemes and mental health support for students and academics of colour. It said: “He worked tirelessly to inspire all students from marginalised backgrounds to believe that academia could also belong to them. He did not inspire one or two people to do a PhD; there are dozens of us over generations who have dreamed and are now doctors and soon-to-be professors because of him.”...

Re: Jason Arday - Supergenius
Wasn't all bad. Deserted by his 'friends' after his resignation is the overlooked detail. Lied and getting caught was his crime. So much plagiarism now it's maybe the quality of plagiarism and how it aligns with a thesis requires measuring? Wrong to call him liar in chief when there are so many nowadays. And not getting caught.

When you put your name on something written by AI, is that equivalent to plagiarism?

Re: Jason Arday - Supergenius
...Between 24 July 2026, when the plagiarism allegations were first reported by The Telegraph, and 14 August 2026, when his death was reported, the British press published 249 articles about Arday – most of them after he had resigned from his post. The instances of alleged fabrication were expansive, and raised serious questions about whether Arday’s memoir had been properly fact-checked. But inside the raging whirlwind of articles and accusations, a man’s life was being torn apart.
“I have a family,” wrote Arday in his resignation statement. “I want to be present for them.” The pressure had taken him to “the limits of what any person should reasonably be expected to endure.”
Where is the line drawn between investigative rigour and a media onslaught? Nobody who finds themselves the subject of interrogative reporting experiences it as dispassionate, neutral scrutiny. They’re having their entire world upended, their flaws and their frailties exposed for the world to see. Fundamentally, journalism is a dynamic of predator and prey, in service of the public interest. But public interest is just one consideration; there is also proportion, and due prominence, that need to be kept in mind.
There were legitimate questions to be answered by Arday, about his research and his account of his life. But it should never have been a front-page story. Even if all the worst things that were said about him turned out to be true, he was not the biggest nor most pressing issue facing the UK at a time of record drought, wildfires, and a new prime minister.
Arday was not the first Oxbridge academic to be accused of plagiarism, nor the first memoirist alleged to have made false claims about their life in an autobiography. He was, however, the first to have been the top story, across multiple newspapers and media outlets, for weeks on end.
William O’Reilly, a Cambridge professor who was found to have plagiarised his own students’ essays and made legal threats against student journalists reporting that fact, was the subject of a handful of articles, none of which were covered on the Today programme. He also kept his job. Journalist Johann Hari, who admitted and apologised for acts of plagiarism, has published multiple non-fiction books since he quit The Independent. White people, when they do wrong, are allowed to be individuals; Arday was made a stand-in for critical race theory, DEI, and black participation in higher education.
Were it not for the combination of Arday’s race, the relentlessness of ideologically motivated critics, and the British media’s preoccupation with what goes on inside the hallowed halls of Oxbridge, there’s no way that a story about alleged plagiarism would be leading the country’s news desks....

Re: Jason Arday - Supergenius
clearly, this has been proven by enough investigation that a number of his published articles had to be amended.
and then later investigating showed even more wrong stuff, plagiarism and made up crap... the guy was hounded by a racist, true, the trouble is that the hound had real ammunition to shoot at the nigger.
to boot, the guy made so many false claims about his conditions and achievements one has to wonder if he was constitutionally even able to utter the truth.

Is "at the nigger" acceptable language where you hail from?

Yeah Svarty. I know you're characterising the attitude of the people hounding him in the media - but please avoid that epithet in future, eh?

Re: Jason Arday - Supergenius
i'm pretty sure the hound would express things thus, in his thought if he lacked the balls to speak the plain truth as he sees it, so that's the word i deem appropriate, 'acceptable' did not enter the equation.
i just might have altered the original post if the site did not have the silliness to allow you so short a time to edit your messages

So you lower yourself to the one you criticise...the fact your wrote it in the first place is telling enough.
