So alt-right is simply a convenient insult, used as a blanked ad-hominem argument, indicating the shallow stupidity of those who use it as a serious accusation.

No. I think of it as is a loosely connected and somewhat ill-defined grouping of American white supremacists/white nationalists, white separatists, anti-Semites, neo-Nazis, neo-fascists, neo-Confederates, Holocaust deniers, conspiracy theorists and other far-right fringe hate groups. In other words, some people are easily recognised as alt-right, especially the ones, like Richard Spencer, who said about themselves that they are, but there is no clear demarcation between who is alt-right and who is not, so we can quibble about others, while others again are clearly mis-labelled as alt-right.

As for Trump, I don't think he is political at all. His views can be anything under the sun as long as they are to his advantage. I can easily imagine him in an alternate history, living in the Soviet Union during the early 1920. By the time Lenin died he would have manoeuvred himself into the position of becoming General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Premier and introduced the "socialism in one country" policy, while Stalin will have joined Trotsky with an ice pick adorning his head.

That is an excellent analysis of typical debating techniques, much better than the first clip I watched, and yes, they look familiar. I do appreciate that the author mentions that those techniques are not exclusive to right-wingers. Worth listening to indeed.
