problem with breaking the unions is that there's actually little to be broken, we have very few unionized people, even if the union purposefully overlook the fact that their base is so reduced, the thing is, the unions will be the lance head, but the non affiliated will be the staff, and it can be a fairly big staff of a pike to stick the heads of unpopular politicos atop.

I didn't get a good description of her until I listened to Hitchins reminiscing about their early encounters. Knowing she wielded sex appeal along with her other tools makes a lot of things make more sense. We don't like to talk about it, but charm usually account for a lot of a leaders success.Rum wrote: ↑Thu Jan 31, 2019 8:32 pmThat’s what the unions said here. It was almost unthinkable that she would break them, but she did.
France of course is a different kettle of fish with no Tory style political movement equivalent. The ‘left’ sometimes still feels like a late arrival at the party here.
Surprised me to hear it about her, just the same.

I think you will find that is very much a minority opinion. If anything what she projected was a sexless image. occasionally with a layer of 'angry mummy' overlaid...which I suppose would turn some people on.Cunt wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 3:29 amI didn't get a good description of her until I listened to Hitchins reminiscing about their early encounters. He is.

If you haven't listened to him talk about her, you should give it a go. I found it quite jarring, since her public persona was so different. I do understand, though, that it was a more primitive time, and looking 'sexy' was probably kept even more in check by women in politics, than it is now.Rum wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 9:18 amI think you will find that is very much a minority opinion. I’m a huge admirer of his and I’ve read a lot of his stuff. I think one thing they (Hitchens and Thatcher) had in common was the ability to see past conventional thinking and find solutions outside the received wisdom. I think he admired her for that. But make no mistake, he loathed her and her politics.Cunt wrote: ↑Fri Feb 01, 2019 5:13 pmIf you haven't listened to him talk about her, you should give it a go. Yeah, for good or bad, she had a lot of her facets polished.
