Donald Trump proposed a ban on Muslims entering the country and he was howled down.

But eleven people are now dead, who would still be alive, if that had been the rule when this asshole entered the country.
There are people walking around now, who are going to be killed in the future, by Muslims who are entering the US now. Stop the Muzzies, and you will be saving lives.

The odd thing is that the majority of Americans would support a ban. It's only the chattering Washington classes who would have problems with it.

Also, you can prevent a lot of road deaths, by digging up the roads. Or, you could stop people dying altogether, by enforced sterilisation.

I'm with Trump on this one. Ban the fuckin lot.
It's discrimination, of course. But it's not discrimination against your own citizens. It's discrimination against certain foreigners.

Well, why should ANY foreigner have any right of entry? Or any rights at all, when it comes to the US?
If you're a citizen, you should all have equal rights. If you're foreign, you have rights in your own country. As far as any other countries go, you can ask, but it's up to them if they want anything to do with you.
It's discretionary, and that's how it should be.

It's funny that Israel never gets any stick. But they welcome Jewish immigrants, and put muslims on tiny reservations and bomb the shit out of them. That seems to be quite ok, but to say that the US doesn't want any more muslims is apparently horrendous.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that a nutter mowing down pedestrians in the name of Allah isn't a problem for, or caused by, the US immigration system. There, I've said it. If the US only wants perfect, non-violent, emotionally well-balanced, morally sound, caring and tolerant citizens then the State Department better start profiling the entire nation and drawing up lists of people to round up and push across the Mexican border.

Well, I disagree to an extent. There is a link, in that clearly some islamic immigrants are indeed going to commit terrorist acts. However, the answer to this is not banning such immigration, but ramping up every possible source of intelligence possible to detect and prevent the attacks. Of course, it will never be 100% foolproof, but I would be very surprised if there is no room for significant improvement, both in traditional intelligence gathering, and getting better information provided by the islamic community itself.

I'm not convinced it's smart to look for a certain class of solutions, namely perfect solutions. I've come to accept these events as inevitable. Therefore I think solutions should mostly revolve around proper preparation and the maintenance of reasonable expectations for prevention. We have to accept some risks.

We have to try at least to keep some sense of balance. The conversation now seems to be headed toward allowing whatever expansion of the police state in order to counter the threat no matter the costs.
