Yeah, when I wrote that the only thing I knew about him was that he was described as a centrist by a number of media outlets. But since then I've heard what he stands for, and he's definitely a right winger in my opinion. Maybe he's only a centrist compared to the Pig Pen.

I'll be deep in it regardless of which one wins, but I assume it will go even worse for me if she does... her mania to get out of the EU, and the euro, and to devaluate the franc is all too likely to turn me into even more of a pauper than I already am.

Not to mention her underwritten agenda, the one she won't admit to. I like blue shirts, but not as part of a uniform, and not as a replacement for brown.

My joy is somewhat subdued. The choice during elections used to be between various shades of social and conservative democracies. Now it is between various shades of conservative democracies and fascist populists. Yeah, thanks for small mercies (no pun intended). Instead of taking two steps back we have only taken one.

And worse is to come. Macaron is bound to fail. All advocates of the trickle-down hypothesis eventually do. Once the underlying doctrine of a laissez faire, global economy bites the plebs of a western style first world democracy in the bum, which it will with the certainty of sunrise, the only alternative will be to vote for a rabidly nationalistic, mercantilist leader because organisations that promote socialism have atrophied to the point of near extinction.
