It IS a well known fact that first and second generation migrants generally have a higher birth rate than their host society, but it is also an established fact that this difference goes away after a few generations.

Then there's also this evil western culture that turns young people into atheists against their parents' wishes.

Exactly. If that was not the case the mosques would be over full instead of being half empty.

However, oddly enough a certain smallish proportion become fundamentalist as against their parent's typically moderate (if old-fashioned) version of islam.

They are the dangerous ones, and the mosques that create them (a small minority, to be sure) need bulldozing...

I take your point that radicalisation doesn't necessarily require a mosque full of radical imams, but there is no doubt that a few Oz mosques have indeed performed that role, and I stand by my point (albeit somewhat less dramatically) that they should be closed down...

It's not the mosques that create them.

The radical imams in a small number of mosques are catalysts for radicalisation of young muslims.

While anti-Islam right wing movements are part of radicalization, they are not the whole picture. This effect also exists in the other direction: Islamist terrorism nourishes right wing radicalization.

The imams would not find fertile ground among young muslims if the latter were not alienated from the bulk of society they live in. The catalysts are the xenophobic activists among us. Of course the gutter media play a role too. They promote a xenophobic mindset in the general public because sensationalism sells.

And yes, as NineBerry mentioned, it's a vicious circle.

Some people just have the right personalities or personal history to be fertile ground for radicalization.

Anyway, the UK and US birth rates are hugely boosted by immigrants.
And countries like Bosnia only record the ten percent that survive.
