But think of all those scummy pools, all those unkempt gardens, all those untidy houses, all that shopping not bought and all those meals uncooked, all those children unwashed and left without a bedtime story and a ride to school, and all that money which was earned and spent that will be taken out of the economy. The US is just as much built and run on cheap labour as most other nations. If there's a shortfall of willing hands in the labour market then wages will rise as employers scramble for employees, and productivity will go down as wages go up, and then businesses will become uncompetitive and shut down or relocate. That might make America great again, but the question is, a great what exactly?

How much will it cost to deport all illegal immigrants out of the economy?
Rationalia relies on voluntary donations. There is no obligation of course, but if you value this place and want to see it continue please consider making a small donation towards the forum's running costs.
Details on how to do that can be found here.

Well, those Mexicans send about $25 billion a year in remittance back to Mexico, so that's $25 billion that will stay in the US economy. Or at least a good part of it.

Yup, Democrats havn't been this upset since we took away their slaves. Now their pissed again we are sending their new slaves back to Mexico :{D

You didn't answer the question though. To what extent do you think that $25bn will offset the economic cost of deporting an estimated 11 million people?

The real question is whether the $25bn will offset the increases in wages necessary to pay locals a legal wage. But there's also the boost to an economy (as long as it can afford the wages) from a higher practical minimum wage.

$25bn will give 625,000 people $40K for a year. With a fair wind deporting all Mexican immigrants might give 1 million people low paid jobs.

DaveDodo does not usually reply to other members's posts. They are just triggers to go into rants about whatever annoyance exercises his alcohol-fried brain. Maybe, rather than becoming less coherent over time he is making his inability to think coherently on account of alcohol-induced brain damage more obvious the more he posts.

As the labor pool tightens, low wage jobs will pay more.

I actually believe in a living wage, because when a company doesn't pay a living wage the tax payers are forced to subsidize the workers pay through welfare benefits and tax credits.

I also don't mind bringing in Hispanics on temporary work permits. But we get to pick and chose and vet who we bring in, and we certainly should not allow them to bring their minor children with them because just the cost of sending one of their kids to school eliminates all the economic benefits of using them as lower cost low skilled labor.

that's 25 billion that won't be in the economy at all because they won't be spent... and you think the US isn't benefitting from the remittance money sent to Mexico? Sure the first beneficiary will be the Mexican economy, but how much of it will go back to US company because the money will be used to buy stuff such as coca cola or McDs?

it doesn't, especially since, between having to go legal and above the table and doing without the service, most people will choose to save money and go without.

I doubt much of it goes back. $25bn would be shitload of Maccas and coke.
