Finally we are getting decent use of the newish multi-channel options here. Channel 7, who are covering the olympics here, have three channels going and have different things on all channels. The first time they got that organised properly. Allows the viewer to decide what they want to watch, moreso than some twat producer who has no idea about what's important to watch or not.

The course is rumoured to be quite arduous, with some concerns raised similar to those raised about the cycling road race circuit, so we could be in for some stumbles, falls and retirements - though hopefully they wont be drawing the screens before shooting any of the riders.

I saw a horse smash its legs into a hard log jump, then decided horse riding is a fucked event and swapped channels.

People comment about Olympics, it's sexist, of course.

NBC was again accused of sexism during its coverage of women’s gymnastics on Sunday, when an as yet unidentified commentator said Team USA members looked like they “might as well be standing in the middle of a mall” after they were caught on camera laughing and talking following their utter annihilation of the competition during the qualifying round.

The Twitterverse exploded with rage, at the implication that women looked like they were at the mall.

You know, if that's the shit people say about you, you're getting about 1/100th of what they say about men when they do shit like that.

And, the Chicago Tribune referred to an athlete as being married to one of the Chicago Bears. Twitterverse explodes, because they think it has to do with her being a woman, that they mention her husband. Not that it's a Chicago paper, and they wouldn't even report her medal win if she wasn't the spouse of a popular local professional athlete. Christ on a bicycle.

And, the story lead with the doozy -- an athlete wins a medal, breaking a record. Commentator mentions that the coach/trainer was responsible. LOL, but the outrage committee was ready -- how DARE they mention the coach (who was the athlete's husband). If the coach was the wife, and the athlete the husband, they'd never mention that --- no no - never. lol.

I saw a facebook exchange yesterday where the feminist types were bitching and moaning that the women's volleyball players were wearing less clothing than the men's volleyball players. Now, nobody forces the women's volleyball players to wear the speedo size bottoms and mid-riff exposing tops. They were all crying "sexism!"

Now - women have the option to wear either the speedos or shorts and a sleeved top. They CHOOSE to wear the bikinis. Yet, somehow, it's sexist because the men don't want to wear speedos and take their shirts off while playing.

it's this kind of bullshit that really is embarrassing to feminists. In the search for equality, what they're really bitching about is that men don't act the way they want them to act. it's not enough that women can wear either bikinis or the same uniform men wear. They want men to wear the speedo style, too. It's sexist that men don't choose to dress as revealing as women choose to dress. LOL.

Aye, some of those fences don't have much give in them and most of them don't have any give at all. It's a dangerous sport, fatality rates are high.

The nature of the contract between horse and rider is pretty unique in terms of human relationships with animals.

From 1996, when beach volleyball became an Olympic sport, until the last Olympics the International Beach Volleyball Federation (FIBV) required women to wear either a bikini style uniform with shorts "a maximum side width of seven centimetres (2.76 inches)" or a body suit. Men were required to wear a singlet top with shorts "no longer than 3cm above the knee", and remain so. After representations to the FIBV, by the Australian Sports Commission and others, the uniform code was changed in 2012 to allow women to wear the bikini-style uniform, the body suit, or to wear a bikini-style top with shorts to the same specification as the men, in acknowledgement of certain 'cultural and/or religious' considerations.

Personally I think all Olympic participants should hold true to the spirit of the original games and compete naked, and oiled.
