Bloody German. The only surprise is that he didn't eat the passengers first. :nono:

If it'd been a bus he'd have connected the exhaust to the passenger area and waited. Can't do that with a plane. 700mph into a mountain on the other hand...same old Germans. :nono:

Sure you can. You just have to remember that if he tries to use it to harm someone it's YOUR duty (and the duty of ever other passenger and crew member) to take him out.

English is the universal language of commercial aviation and all certified pilots worldwide are required to speak it, so I call bullshit.

Where did you get this information from? I've heard that the crash was intentional.
And 630 hours is not a "learner" nor would a 600 hour pilot be "panicked." Scrumple, you have zero understanding of the aviation certification and training requirements or procedures. That pilot was fully qualified to take off, operate and land the plane all by himself before he ever set foot in the cockpit of a passenger-carrying aircraft. Moreover, you do not need a code to open the cockpit door from inside the cockpit, only from outside.

Either the co-pilot was rendered suddenly incapacitated by something like a stroke or a heart attack or it was an intentional act. According to an expert on the plane I heard on the radio yesterday, it appears that the autopilot mode had to have been deliberately set for a straight-line descent with no "bottom" altitude in order for this to happen. What this means is that the co-pilot had to enter the descent parameters (rate of descent) and then activate the mode WITHOUT entering a lower limit altitude. This had to have been a voluntary act because an autopilot descent with no lower altitude cannot be initiated except by a voluntary act of a pilot.

It is remotely possible that the co-pilot suffered some sudden medical issue, tried to initiate a descent to a lower altitude but was not able to set the lower limit. But this would require that he initiated the op mode and then deliberately bypassed the altitude limit entry and confirmed the op mode before he was incapacitated. But if he was becoming incapacitated and was desperately trying to do something, it's extremely unlikely that he would initiate a descent, given the fact that it's now shown that there was NOT a sudden cabin decompression that incapacitated everyone.

This has every appearance of being a deliberate act. If I had to guess, the co-pilot may well have had a suicide pill with which he killed himself after setting the aircraft to crash, just to ensure he couldn't chicken out.

According to the news, you can hear the co-pilot breathing regularly all the way up until impact on the flight voice recorder - so I think we can rule that theory out.

Didn't know that. So now it's murder/suicide or terrorism, or both.

This means that no pilot or co-pilot is going to be left alone in the cockpit, ever, which is a good thing.

If only one of those passengers had a concealed carry howitzer - they could have shot out the flightdeck door... :tea:

Well, it just goes to show you that sometimes you die. That doesn't impeach the utility of a gun in other situations.

I don't think that this was an issue. He was flying over mountains and valleys ranging from five to ten thousand feet, so he didn't need to set it to no-limit.
He could have set it to four thousand feet, and he would have been sure to crash.

Tomorrow's papers are claiming that he had suffered from depression.
