In an ideal world, people like that doctor would have the right not to treat people who she believes are going against her god. If she really believes that shit, it must be hard to be forced to pretend that they are no different to other parents.
In the ideal world, she could refuse to accept them, and the two mom family could also go through life without being discriminated against.
Unfortunately, you can't have both. You have to choose between conflicting rights, as in so many other things.
I would personally choose the 2 mom family's rights over the doctor's.
If the doctor wants her services to be available to the general public, then she should have to swallow her religious prejudices and not discriminate, even if she genuinely believes all that shit.

Plenty of places in Melbourne serve short blacks. No way do we discriminate against pygmies!

Actually, what we worked out 40 years ago was that it was bad for the barman to have to say, "sorry, the law says we can't serve blacks here". Even today, private clubs are allowed to discriminate on whatever basis they wish, but without government support for discrimination, it hardly ever happens any more.

I don't know the ins and outs of the law in the USA, or in the UK for that matter.
I'm just saying what I think is right. I've got plenty of prejudices myself. I can see how the doctor feels, but like I pointed out, it's not a perfect world.

I would put the right not to be discriminated against higher than my right to discriminate.
You have to have limits on it though. If some girl doesn't fancy black men, you can't interfere with her right to discriminate on grounds of race when it comes to dating.
But if she's a nurse, you can't allow her to say she won't treat black men.
There always going to be are lots of grey areas. If you provide halal food on a menu, do you have to supply kosher stuff as well? You have to restrict it to major things that matter. It's not practical to legislate for every incident.
