The truth is that he is illegally grazing on public land. I.e. he's a thief. States don't put up with thieves (particularly those that steal off the state). Hence why it's unlikely to be over and why your reply is a silly non-sequitur.

I know in crazy-libbo-land you can ignore court rulings and decide on your own whether something is constitutional or not, but the rest of the civilised world operates differently to that. And given this guy is clearly a teabag nutter, I'd say the feds were probably not unwarranted in bringing some firepower to the meeting. What was that quote you love? It has. I could not find what Seth calls "the full transcript", but if one such exists, it's most likely based on this video. At the halfway mark Bundy makes it crystal clear that the US government has done precisely that for twenty years. He went through one court case after another and lost every one of them. Then he refused to attend any more court proceedings. Now his position is even more radical than that of the average sovereign citizen nutter. He says: "You cannot ask the President of the United States for your land back. You cannot ask Congress for your land back and you can't expect the judical (sic) system to give your land back." "Why not?" he asks his supporters rhetorically. Well, the obvious answer is: "because we already have it. You can't ask for something you already have. ... They can't give you something you already have. Very simple." "We own this land."

The entire video, by the way, is well over an hour long, and only worth watching if you are interested in listening to the demented rant of a so-called sovereign citizen and the enthusiastic approval of it by his equally cretinous supporters.

Which is why the militia brought guns, and faced down the BLM. Which is why we protect the right to keep and bear arms, so that out-of-control government functionaries can be brought to heel by the people. The good news is that that fucking cunt Janet Reno wasn't in charge, and that fucking asswipe pussy Holder was, otherwise there would have been a lot of dead people out there, including BLM agents and citizens.

It's important that the People remind politicians and government functionaries from time to time that they are not invulnerable and that they can push people too far with their fascist totalitarian actions. That's why Marvin Heemeyer is one of my heroes.

Whether Bundy is right or wrong, there was absolutely no justification for such an intimidating show of force. This could have been handled exclusively in a courtroom by filing liens on Bundy's property. His cows have been there since 1870 and the ecosystem seems to have survived. A few more years, or decades isn't going to hurt anything, and the BLM (a for-profit government agency that makes billions of dollars every year) can exercise the lien when he dies.

I'd be very surprised if credible research didn't show it was in better condition BECAUSE Bundy grazed his cows there, as compared to areas which have been off-limits and have not been grazed for 40 years. That's what current rangeland research is showing...arid habitat actually suffers much more when it's not grazed and stewarded actively. Without the churning of the surface the soil crusts over and prevents seeds from growing which reduces forbs and grasses markedly and promotes decadent stands of sagebrush that create a severe wildfire hazard as well as reducing ecosystem diversity.

Cattle actually break up the crust and their hoof prints create innumerable water catchpockets where seeds can fall and germinate as the small amounts of precipitation are caught in these mini-pools rather than running off the crusty soil where no hooved animals are present.
