The difference was in real life the marines merely held him 'til the cops came.

I was just about to post, 'I hope those mindless thugs (the marines) and the police who covered it up get their just desserts' before I saw the Snopes report.
I don't see anything funny about this type of abuse of power from 'authorities' even if the guy who committed the crime was a dick.

It's a self-deceit to believe a world of vigilantes will a be a better place. These marines should have been charged with assault and being a disgrace to their uniform they should have been thrown out of the army. It begins with simple tit-for-tats but builds into vendettas, gang warfare and organised crime taking power away from the responsible forces of law & order. I've relatives in the police, the law isn't served by vigilantes....this is the road to anarchy and a less civlized society.
