I'm surprised - and such an intelligent chap! Its easy

Current System (First past the post)

Two parties

Party A - 70%
Party B 30%

Party A wins

Three parties (or more)

Party A 40%
Party B 30%
Party C 30%

Party A wins and forms a government which is not voted in my the majority of the population. A common outcome in the UK.

AV

Second (and more) choices are counted and you end up with more likelihood of more people voting overall for who ends up in power.
Are you sure this isn't just something someone made up?
God introduced the First Past the Post system when he invented England. AV is the devil's spawn and all the better for it!

I apply the av IQ test. My wife as average IQ and barely understood the previous system whilst not understanding the new AV at all. So if you factor in the power of politcal advertising/wealth and things you see that whilst in theory the new system may be a improvement reality always wins.

If you don't understand AV you are dumber than than a slug.
“I wish no harm to any human being, but I, as one man, am going to exercise my freedom of speech. No human being on the face of the earth, no government is going to take from me my right to speak, my right to protest against wrong, my right to do everything that is for the benefit of mankind. I am not here, then, as the accused; I am here as the accuser of capitalism dripping with blood from head to foot.”

John Maclean (Scottish socialist) speech from the Dock 1918.

I X'd. I always do. Exercising the only bit of political clout I possess excites me. I had a wank afterwards.

I didn't feel any of them deserved my vote so I drew big spunky cocks again. I did however vote for AV.

Does that count as a despoiled ballot?

And how many choices did you have? We only had two, Con or Lab.

They became unnecessary when the three main parties were indistinguishable from them.
