But it's a Mormon school... he could have gone to a real educational institution... :ask:

A university in the US state of Utah has suspended a star basketball player for having pre-marital sex with his girlfriend in violation of the school's strict "honour code".

What's wrong with that? He agreed to abide by their honor code, and that's part of it. It is Brigham Young University after all. :dunno:

I give the university some credit for their willingness to give up a basketball star rather than compromise their code...on the other hand, there are universities who would look the other way if they could when their sports stars engage in rape.
Whats wrong is the entire premise. Religious "educational" institutes. Period.
For me in this case it's more specifically the imposition of religiously framed values into the private life of an individual.

Realistically, Mai, who do you think signs a basketball star up to an honour code? I think it would be naive to believe he was allowed to be completely responsible for the decision.
I agree that religiously framed values shouldn't be imposed on anyone...but it's a fact of life at many religious universities here in the US, of which Brigham Young is one of them.

I also don't understand what you mean by him being 'allowed' to be responsible for the decision - unless you are saying his parents decided for him where he was to attend university, or he had financial restrictions preventing him from attending another school, or something like that?

Many universities have honor codes - it's stated up front before enrolling, and a code book is given to you as an incoming freshman. Brigham Young is a Mormon University. If he is a bona fide basketball star, he would have been approached by many college recruiters, and probably had the option to attend a number of other universities besides Brigham Young. I'm guessing he chose Brigham Young University for the prestige factor...well, it looks like it came at a price for him.

Here's where the whole deal stinks.

Mormons are an abusive cult and have a practice of "interviewing" boys about their sexuality and sex life from an early age. The interviewer is a "priest" a courtsey title as none of them ever have any kind of training or qualification.

If any other strange man "interviewed" a 12 yr old boy, or older teen, about sex like the mormons do, they'd string him up and teh general prison population would kill them.

So who did the athlete divulge his personal sex life to? Why isn't a fuss being made over this abusive incursion into his personal life?

Well, he chose to go there. But yes-- one of the stupidest schools ever.
