I shall be crossing the border and heading for Conwy in April. May take the elephant gun with me.

Given that, what will be the first Welsh Law to go through the Welsh Assembly?

Years ago, on a rugby tour, we had an American visitor with us.

As we were approaching the Welsh border we inquired whether he'd got his passport with him as it was necessary to cross the border. He said he had not, and promptly went into a panic, thinking he could not cross and would not be able to play.

So we hid him in one of the overhead luggage carriers. As we approached the entry to Wales, we had the driver stop the coach in a lay by. And a couple of us marched up the bus asking for passports, and opening the odd overhead, obviously not the one our friend was hiding in.

As one of the "border guards" approached our American's hiding place, he inquired in a loud voice "I hope you're not trying to smuggle any illegals into Wales". We all denied it profusely.

The "guards" got off the bus (well sat back in their seats) and we let him out as we were on our way.

To this day he is convinced that he was smuggled into Wales.
