Exactly...

Probably written by a poisonous little arsehole that deserves a good kicking, but ultimately repression of such material leads to repression of too much...

Maybe I should flesh out that satirical, gourmet infant canibalism article I started writing and turn it into a book. :ask:

Probably the thread title. To my mind, it has a vague "warning - this is bad" overtone to it. Reading it along with the post, the first impression I got was one of disapproval. Because it specified "Amazon" and not, say, the book's author, the impression I got on first reading is that Amazon should be judged by the actions referred to in the following article.

In other words, it's easy to interpret the OP as being critical of Amazon, and would be easy, therefore, to make assumptions as to the writer's other thoughts on the subject. I'm not, incidentally! I'm just commenting on how the written word is subject to interpretation, as per Charlou's question to XC. Who I'm not. Um.

I should probably ... :leave:

Seems to me that all you have to do these days to create a moral panic, cause the public to lose all sense of proportion, of justice and fairness and even reason is to use the word paedophile in a sentence.

Does anyone actually know what's in this book?

I'm more inclined to think it's a clever ploy by the author to sell more books.

If it is taken off Amazon's list, it can still be sold elsewhere and now more potential buyers know of it's existence thanks to all the free advertising.

is Lolita next? How about Reading Lolita in Terhan?
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

No, you're right .. When I posted that question to XC I didn't consider the thread title which I didn't really pay much attention to at the time, but is more obvious now you mention it.

I can see why people would be alarmed that such a book is on the market and I see nothing wrong with drawing it to the attention of others in an attempt to instigate consumer pressure, or at least raise awareness and debate.

Personally, I err on the side of non censorship. Nothing should be hidden away, swept under the carpet or otherwise vetoed as a topic for discourse. The more out in the open controversial and taboo subject matter is, the better equipped we are to acknowledge and deal with it.

I'm always reminded of the Brass Eye Special - Paedogeddon :hehe:

The book has 'Code of Conduct' in the title so it may well tell paedophiles NOT to molest children. But either way, the controversy will do nothing but increase sales.

Before you buy anything from Amazon, read this:

If the product has to be shipped from Jersey, beware: it takes fucking years.

Not surprising. I mean we're talking about shipping from a desolate wasteland unfit for human habitation. It should take a bit.

Exactly. I would have been far more likely to boycott Amazon if they refused to sell the book.
