yes, totally agree. placard carrying protests are pointless and effect zero change. I remember protesting tuition hikes in university. Every year there was a protest and every year there were tuition hikes. fucking ridiculous. The Mad Hatter wrote:Nonsense.Psychoserenity wrote:Why are there always idiots who decide to smash things? It's about time there was some old-school civil disobedience. I'm tired of the fairy-crew shit-kicking their passivity. No matter what they protest, someone says "no" and they all go fucking home. Finally someone gives enough of a shit to take it a step further.

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.
Re: Smash the State! - Tory HQ stormed!
Last I heard the under 35 were losing all theirs !(but I can't see that happening) The thing about all the changes to the benefit system is that they are costing millions to do ! the savings might ,might pay for themselves eventually ! but that will be totally out weighed by the costs of trying to deal with the jobless benefit-less homeless .And as for making the jobseekers work for nothing what jobs are they going to do without making more unemployed ? Or are they just going to have gangs of people lined up at the side of the road picking litter or cutting grass in some hope that the public humiliation with drive them to find jobs ,Fucking funny because there will be no extra jobs the dole queue's are already full of public sector workers they have just fired !Tigger wrote:Feck, what's the housing benefit situation, do you know?
Turn on the telly the adverts are full of companies buying secondhand gold at 15% of it's real worth and short term loan companies charging 3760 % Apr on loans to poor people who cannot pay their bills .
But we should look on the bright side

And civil disobedience is going to be difficult because those laws we let them pass 'to keep us safe from terrorism ' are going to be used on any one they feel like .

They already are, protesting is basically illegal unless state sanctioned, even then you're bound to be pepper sprayed, tear gassed, and locked up. Not sure if you can say " those laws we let them pass". "We" never had a choice.Feck wrote:And civil disobedience is going to be difficult because those laws we let them pass 'to keep us safe from terrorism ' are going to be used on any one they feel like .Tigger wrote:Feck, what's the housing benefit situation, do you know?

Smashing windows and starting fights in a crowd won't make anything better either. As I said before, I totally agree that we need more civil disobedience, but why not have it with some intelligence for a change? Civil disobedience is what Gandhi did, rioting is just fucking stupid.sandinista wrote:yes, totally agree. placard carrying protests are pointless and effect zero change. Ghandi was also a racist and utilised the threat of the Japanese invasion in his 'campaigns of peace'. Fuck Ghandi.
Governments in the UK, AU and US have learnt that these 'peaceful protestors' can be disuaded just by a simple 'no'.
There may have been better ways to fuck others over, but I don't care. It's nice to see people willing to risk something for once.

Call me naive, but what's the problem with tuition fees when then only have to be paid back when early over 21 thousand? How will this put the financially challenged students off applying? Over the last 20 years, more and more people have gone to do degrees. When I did mine (just dropping that in, obviously) far fewer students studied to degree level. It is impossible to pay tuition fees for so many students now. What's wrong with paying for higher education, getting a better job and paying it back? If I have missed a point, please feel free to offer a contrasting opinion.

Because it sets you pack that much. You are 21 grand behind getting a house, getting a car, starting a family etc. etc. etc.stripes4 wrote:Call me naive, but what's the problem with tuition fees when then only have to be paid back when early over 21 thousand? But 21 grand is reasonable, you can pay that in as little as two, three years depending on how you budget.
You treble that, 21 grand becomes 63.

Hmm. I am considering my position on the matter, while watching riot footage on the 10 oclock news. Pretty violent. Little shits just loved the opportunity to throw stuff, really. The Mad Hatter wrote:Because it sets you pack that much. I thought Cameron saying that the increase in UK Student fees would be used to fund Chinese students a bit badly timed.
