Re: America! We brought democracy to Iraq!
Not only an ulterior motive, but we are always pulling the strings behind everything. We attacked ourselves on 9/11, we installed Saddaam Hussein and then took him out when we didn't like him anymore, we decide which dictators rule which countries all over the world, we control the voting machines, we never want anyone to "really" be free we only want them to do what we say.....maiforpeace wrote:Americans always have an ulterior motive, didn't you know that already CES?
I wonder what our ulterior motive is for providing the bulk of aid to devastated Pakistan...
Yeah, we may give more money to more countries than anyone else, but that's just because we're greedy profiteers who are only doing that out of selfishness.

I mean - the bloody Hussein regime is gone, and now Iraq has a nascent function parliamentary government, and peace and stability appears to be restored, generally speaking.
Or, are you suggesting that Obama is leaving the Iraqis to fend for themselves and descend into bloody tyranny and civil war?

oh...wait a little bit more...when the US can NOT be at war with anyone for a whole year I'll believe that some change has occurred, till then its business as usual. Some figureheads may be imperialist and some imperialist lite, that's about it.Coito ergo sum wrote:Yeah, good guys, at least as far as Obama's supporters were chanting in 2008 and 2009. He was going to close Guantanamo (check), bring our troops home by the end of 2009, with the exception of a "small number of troops to secure the embassy" (check), stop warrantless wiretapping, repeal the Patriot Act (or at least its "bad" parts), end rendition to foreign countries for interrogations (check), close CIA overseas prisons (check), fix the economy (check)....oh, wait... "check" means that thing got done.... lolsandinista wrote:good guys? sarcasm detector going off? They call it a trillion dollar investment. It's atually just a trillion dollar rip-off.
And they said it wasn't about the oil!!

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

No, sorry, it's just me. The poor soldier is happy to go home and I don't blame him, but it's not such clear victory as it sounds.Coito ergo sum wrote:We did win, though. Didn't we?kiki5711 wrote:the soldier is shouting "we won, we won"!!

ANd I guess the best is yet to come to the US in the form of oil, I guess. Is that where the victory is? Will there now be freedom and democracy in Iraq? What kind of democracy will it be with Islam laws overshadowing democracy laws? I don't understand? HOw will it all work? Will there be public schools? Are Christians going to be bombed or allowed to co/exist with muslims? What kind of jobs will there be? Will the US also fund the rebuilding of the cities and towns? how exactly will this move on?
Re: America! We brought democracy to Iraq!
The Iraqis have their shot. Saddam's boot has been pulled off their necks, and they have been repeatedly allowed to vote for their chosen representatives in a democratic government, as U.S. troops stood guard against insurgent attacks on the polling stations.
At a cost of thousands of American lives and 700 billion dollars.
Here's your one chance, Fancy, don't let me down.
And here's your chance, Monkeyworld, to pull your monkey heads out of your monkey asses, and prove you're something more than Leftobot propaganda automatons.
I won't be holding my breath waiting for that...

what kind of democracy is that going to be when every time the people have to vote, it practically starts another war? how are they going to incorporate Islam laws with freedom and democracy? or does their freedom and democracy mean something different?

I wouldn't bundle all those together if I were you... some of those are preposterous, but your government DID install and aid Saddam all the way through his atrocities, all the way up to the invasion of Kuwait, and the installation of dictators is also well-known... Noriega, Pinochet, Saddam, Pol Pot, and so on. Your sentence makes it seem as if all of these things are crackpot theories... It might not be what you're trying to state, but it does come across that way, to me.Coito ergo sum wrote:Not only an ulterior motive, but we are always pulling the strings behind everything. At a cost of 700 billion dollars, nearly all spent in America, paying americans to do american work for the american govornment.Toontown wrote:The Iraqis have their shot. And now the US wants 1000 billion Dollars in oil to pay for it. So the impoverished Iraqi people are PAYING for their own invasion!! With money that should be going on medicine, hospitals, and clean water and sewage.
The americans are taking money away from the poorest in Iraq, and paying it to the richest in America.
It's the American dream!!

Re: America! We brought democracy to Iraq!
It's difficult to say what might happen, but whatever it is, it's unlikely to be pretty. The sad thing is, Saddam might have been a dictator, but he was at least a secular dictator. He got rid of sharia law, tried to modernise his country - now they're left with an incredibly unstable democracy and no real direction. I wouldn't be surprised if they just fell back to islam and civil war for the next decade. It's just a fucking mess.kiki5711 wrote:what kind of democracy is that going to be when every time the people have to vote, it practically starts another war? how are they going to incorporate Islam laws with freedom and democracy? or does their freedom and democracy mean something different?

Re: America! We brought democracy to Iraq!
I understand that fight for democracy has to start somewhere, somehow, but only if the people "WANT IT" and are clear about what exactly it is that they want. What is it that Iraq people want out of democracy? How will they accomplish that? What percentage of the country wants it/and don't want it? Who is their potential leader? What does he promise to do for the country? How will they re-build? Will there be money left for them after US pays it self back by taking their oil?
Re: America! We brought democracy to Iraq!
Firstly Suddam was not a secular dictator, secondly who the fuck are you to say that Iraq was in a better position under Suddam?
I suppose Russia was better off under the Czar, that Germany was better off under Hitler?

I sometimes wonder why didn't the Iraq people get rid of Saddam? It only takes one bullet. Instead, now, they owe billions of dollars to someone else for doing it for them.
