Mr McAveety went on: "She's very attractive looking, nice, very nice, very slim," before adding: "The heat's getting to me."
The MSP also said: "She looks kinda... she's got that Filipino look.
"You know... the kind you'd see in a Gauguin painting. There's a wee bit of culture."

The first sentence is questionable in my opinion... unless I need a translation.
"There's a very attractive girl in the second row, dark... and dusky. We'll maybe put a wee word out for her." which sounds like he's suggesting that he or his retinue should try to make contact with her?
You're over-analysing.
He was talking to an aide, and he more or less said "Wow! That's a nice looking woman!" There was a little bit of Pythonesque nudge-winkery with nothing beyond wishful thinking. He didn't know the girl was underage - nobody was hurt and everything he said was complimentary anyway.

Even so, why did he resign then?

Because it is unacceptable to express such thoughts in a work environment in the UK today. Sad, isn't it?

My goodness. We would have no politicians left here in the US if people resigned over such statements.

Then they for sudden joy did weep,
And I for sorrow sung,
That such a king should play bo-peep,
And go the fools among.
Prithee, nuncle, keep a schoolmaster that can teach
thy fool to lie: I would fain learn to lie.

My god when will politicians learn? First Brown and now this?
I agree about how the sentiment has been taken. How is this negative? How is it even racist? How the hell is it sexist?
It's almost exactly like Bigotgate in that the whole thing's been misrepresented. Brown called a spade a spade; McAveety complimented a woman on her looks. Both were painted as having done something wrong.
I have to say, lol wut?

"sort of voting" is a euphemism for oral sex now?

You never know...
But the PS referred to "some event or other" in the park

Indeed! Although the phrase "met you" is usually enough, when lp is involved...
