Back then my wife's salary was some 30% behind mine, but like many in the public sector she accepted this as normal since she had more job security and a pension. Today her salary is still 30% behind mine, despite going part-time (3 days per week) and invalidating herself from any promotions. "Agenda for change" in particular cost the taxpayer dear.

I was talking to my brother-in-law about this just this weekend. He is a medical consultant in the NHS and his salary has increased 150%, yes 150%, in the last 13 years. He is fully expecting to see his salary frozen for some time.

I can't comment for other areas of the public sector, but would be very surprised if it's not a similar story.
Not in my case. I have been promoted quite rapidly over the last 13 years, but certainly in my line of work (education/social care in local authorities) salaries have gone up perhaps a little above inflation. The 'top' salaries have soared though. Chief executives of councils, directors and so on have risen much faster. They are being capped and frozen as we speak.

Currently people are muttering/speculating about a 20% cut in council budgets. That will affect the services provided to every citizen without doubt.

Raise taxes on everything, particularly foods containing sugar, and pre-processed foods. Lower taxes on fresh vegetables, meat and fish. Use extra money on science/healthcare for everyone.

Sell off the royal family and all they 'own'. Scrap Trident- although, I'm sure it would cost afortune to 'get rid of'. Allow people to live rent-free in the houses that they can no longer afford to pay the mortgages on. Massively tax credit card companies/Banks with an APR greater than inflation.

Lower tax for people with an above average IQ.

Correct.

Or, remove their charitable statuses (stati?) and start taxing them.

Cut family tax credits.

Look at this shit:

A 25 year old man and his 25 year old wife have two children. They both work full time and their joint gross income is £40,000 per year.

They are eligible for working tax credit of £451 per year.

Why?

What difference will that £451 make to their lifestyle? Why should they be "credited" for working anyway? Why are working people receiving welfare benefits? It's fucking nuts.

Pull back all of those £451 payments (and more) across the country and see how it adds up.

I'd have a cull of local authority jobs. I'm not talking about teachers or social workers or the like, I'm talking about things like "Head of Creative Visioneering: Creating a fresh identity for Margate!" £75k p.a. + car. I'd scrap these jobs. And sack the hiring managers who thought they were a good idea.

I don't want a new "vision" for my town - I want the streetlights to work.

Middle management across the entire public sector. Half of them just go to meetings about what to discuss in the next meeting and are a total waste of resources. A large percentage of them could be culled.
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.
