So any woman who has ever had a period is an abortionist? Women should get pregnant at the first opportunity and stay that way? Gotta love that logic. Mohamed would approve.Valden wrote:Yes, miscarriage is the correct word.
But for Fundies, they call it an "abortion" because the woman takes the pill knowing full well that it can stop a fertilized egg from implanting and therefore causes an "abortion" because they consider a newly fertilized egg to be the same as a born person.

No, that's "natural" and therefore okay because it does not involve a unnatural attempt to stop a pregnancy (such as the pill) hence why so many Fundies do support Family Planning (like Catholics)Gawdzilla wrote:So any woman who has ever had a period is an abortionist?Valden wrote:Yes, miscarriage is the correct word.

Some say taking the pill "frustrates" the natural order of procreation and is therefore immoral.

Of course, family planning can also be considered a "frustration" of procreation. I've yet to see a good argument for it, while against birth controls and condoms.

Pretty much.Women should get pregnant at the first opportunity and stay that way?

Indeed.Gotta love that logic. Mohamed would approve.

I think it would only apply to fertilised eggs.Gawdzilla wrote:So any woman who has ever had a period is an abortionist? Women should get pregnant at the first opportunity and stay that way? Gotta love that logic. Mohamed would approve.Valden wrote:Yes, miscarriage is the correct word.

Contraceptive pills don't primarily work by preventing implantation of fertilised eggs, they prevent ovulation, preventing fertilisation, hence no miscarriage/abortion occurs.
At least that is how I think the pill works.

Sometimes it fails from preventing fertilization, and instead stops the egg from implanting. And because many Fundies consider a fertilized egg to be a "person", if anything stops it from implanting (aside from natural miscarriage) it's an abortion.

And God causes natural miscarriages, so therefore, god is an abortionist murderer!!!Valden wrote:Yes, that's how it works.

Re: Anti-Birth Control Pharmacy a Prescription for Failure
I was once on a forum where a significant proportion of members were religious US conservatives. Someone posted a typically inaccurate and emotionally charged "summary" of the stages in a fetus's development (they can feel pain four seconds after conception ... etc), so I responded (as you would) by pointing out the various errors in the post.Pappa wrote:And God causes natural miscarriages, so therefore, god is an abortionist murderer!!!Valden wrote:Yes, that's how it works.

The discussion led to a general exchange about abortions, so I did a rough calculation as to how many unborn children their God aborted every year (it was a staggering number compared to manual abortions) and asked how they could reconcile that. The responses that didn't ignore the question completely bascially came down to "God works in mysterious ways." One RC lady went to the trouble of finding the relevant RC Catechism that "explains" why God allows "natural" abortions...

(She was quite adept at quoting that stuff - clearly more important than any bible passage.)

According to information on the The Association of Pro-Life Physicians: site, oral contraceptives (the Pill) cause changes in the endometrium that have historically been assumed to decrease the possibility of implantation, should conception occur. That is, some believe that oral contraceptives act as abortifacients by making the lining of the womb hostile to an egg which could somehow escape the fallopian tubes and become fertilised; then it can't stick to the lining of the womb and gets expelled. However, there are no known existing scientific studies that validate the "hostile endometrium is abortifacient" theory.
But why let lack of scientific evidence get in the way of a good belief, eh?

A lot of pharmacies in the US are merely a section of a larger general store. The main counter will have the Playboys and cigarettes behind it, and the pharmacy is separate so the drugs can be locked up at night.Ele wrote:lol... I have never heard of a pharmacy that sells porn or cigarettes. This is in America, though. They call their pharmacies "drug stores" after all (tee hee hee, it makes me think of buying naughty drugs)... and on holiday I even bought beer from one of those drug stores while picking up some condoms and was asked for ID when I was 30 years old. It was the amusing highlight of my week. I assume I was asked for ID in respect of the beer, not the condoms....Ghatanothoa wrote:I love it, one stop shopping.
