Holland is unusually flat, so it's not surprising that it's older people who opt for an electric bike.
Most countries have hills, and that's where the electrics have a real advantage, and an incentive to the younger riders to buy one.
I'm not surprised that people don't insure pedal bikes, but they probably would for electric bikes.
I wasn't just referring to the small and slow electric bikes. There are high powered fast electric bikes now, a genuine alternative to a motorbike.
I believe they've lapped the Isle of Man course at over 100 mph on one, and there's an ebike race every year.
