Trump soon parachuting babies into Mexico.
On his first day in office, Donald Trump signed an order ending constitutionally recognized right of birthright citizenship. Thousands of expecting parents across the US suddenly had to consider that their babies would be born into a legal limbo.

Among them is Monica, a woman expecting her first child after escaping political persecution in Venezuela. If Trump’s order stands, Monica’s baby will be born stateless.

“I was very shocked,” she told the Guardian. “For me and for so many mothers. This is a right that is in the constitution of this country – so you cannot imagine that they would take it away just because.”

It was especially destabilizing for a couple who had wanted for years to become parents. “We always wanted to organize our lives to have children,” Monica said. “We had finally found some stability.”

Trump signs executive order to defund youth gender-affirming care
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Caroline Kennedy, the former US ambassador to Australia, has called her cousin Robert F Kennedy Jr a "predator" ahead of his confirmation hearings.
RFK Jr, the nephew of former president John F Kennedy, has been nominated by President Donald Trump to become the US health secretary despite his disproven vaccine claims.

He has promoted disproven claims, including that childhood vaccines cause autism.

He has also been accused of fuelling vaccine scepticism in Samoa ahead of a deadly measles outbreak that killed 83 people there in 2019.

Ms Kennedy said his views were "dangerous enough" to disqualify him from the role but his personal qualities posed an "even greater concern".

She went on to claim "the strength of his personality" led other family members "down the path of drug addiction."

"His basement, his garage, his dorm room were the centre of the action where drugs were available, and he enjoyed showing off how he put baby chickens and mice in the blender to feed his hawks," she added.

"It was often a perverse scene of despair and violence."

Trump’s Pentagon strips Mark Milley of security clearance and guard detail
The Pentagon has confirmed that the new US defense secretary, Pete Hegseth, is revoking the security clearance and personal security detail for Mark Milley – the retired decorated army general and former chair of the joint chiefs of staff who served under Donald Trump’s first presidency and went on to criticise him.

Hegseth also directed the defence department’s inspectorate general to determine whether it is appropriate to reopen an assessment of Milley’s military grade, the Pentagon said late on Tuesday.

Joe Kasper, sworn in under Trump as defense department chief of staff, said in a statement: “Undermining the chain of command is corrosive to our national security.”

The news was first reported by Fox News on Tuesday. Representatives for Milley could not be immediately reached.

Milley was among those to whom Joe Biden issued pre-emptive pardons on 20 January, his last day in office, in case Trump tried to take revenge on them.

Milley called Trump a fascist and detailed Trump’s conduct around the Capitol insurrection...

"What is Impoundment?"

"It is the act by a president to withhold or delay the spending of funds that Congress has appropriated for the federal government to disburse."

"Congress essentially banned presidents from unilaterally and permanently impounding funds in a 1974 law. But during the presidential campaign, Mr. Trump, in a video on his campaign website, vowed to restore the power so that he could “squeeze the bloated federal bureaucracy for massive savings.”

"But supporters of concentrating more power in the presidency argue that the Constitution gives the president the authority to choose not to execute particular spending provisions Congress has written into the law. They say the phrase “the president shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed” should be interpreted to allow for that."

"The rules are looser for spending deferrals, or temporary blocks on funds that will eventually be released. Another part of the statute, as amended in 1987 by Congress, says the president is supposed to send lawmakers a detailed and specific notice about such a delay, including its rationale and when it will be over."

There is no evidence that the Trump administration sent any kind or reasons for a delay in this current action.

"The Trump campaign said explicitly that the president intended to challenge the constitutionality of the 1974 law restricting presidential impoundment power.
"The campaign said he planned to direct agencies “on Day 1” to “identify portions of their budgets where massive savings are possible through the impoundment power.” And in the accompanying video, Mr. Trump said, “When I return to the White House, I will do everything I can to challenge the Impoundment Control Act in court, and if necessary, get Congress to overturn it.”

Something wrong when the most powerful nation on the planet, full of at least a fair dealing of the smartest chess players, falls into the hands of someone like Trump who proceeds to do to the country whatever the missing plane pilot did to the control panel his plane before it vanished off radar.
